it would be a good matchup, but cuse has way too much starpower.
6 NFL hall of famers + 1 future first ballot + mcnabb (whose on the bubble) + a heisman winner who never played in the NFL

Not going to argue because if you want defensive star power there is plenty of that in my list. Sanders(HOF), Brooks, Buckley, Butler will be HOFers. There will be about 6 guys on my list that will be HOFers. Plus there is no better Defensive back group you can find. Again some homerism.

Right here. I would put these guys up in their prime against any offense. A little homerism, but look at the names on that list.

CB -- Deion Sanders, Terrell Buckley, Leroy Butler, Xavier Rhodes
S -- Derrick Gibson, Pat Watkins
LB -- Derrick Brooks, Marvin Jones, Sam Cowart
DL -- Ron Simmons, Derrick Alexander, Andre Wadsworth, Peter Boulware, Jamal Reynolds, Tank Carridine, Bjeorn Werner

Agreed. And for Bama, I think this would do fine...

CB - Dre Kirkpatrick, Dee Milliner
S - Mark Barron, Roman Harper
LB - Rolando McClain, Donta Hightower, Courtney Upshaw, DeMeco Ryans
DL - Terrence Cody, Marcell Dareus, Antwan Odom

I like this list as well. Just amazes me how many of them are within the last 3 years. Not too many "old guys".

i think you are gonna need guys like ray lewis, brian urlacher, dwight freeney, julius peppers, vince wilfork & albert haynesworth (before he started sucking) on your team to give this cuse team trouble.

This was fucking tough.

Since 1914, Nebraska has produced 94 players who have collected a total of 108 first-team All-American awards. According to the NCAA, the Huskers' total of 53 consensus All-Americans ranks sixth among NCAA Division I-A schools and second among conference schools.

Probably gonna be some backlash from a couple Husker fans because this list is so ridiculously debatable.

HC: Tom Osborne

QB: Tommy Frazier
QB: Eric Crouch
QB: Turner Gill
RB: Lawrence Phillips
RB: Mike Rozier
RB: Ahman Green
FB: Joel Makovicka
WR: Johnny Rodgers
WR: Irving Fryar
TE: Junior Miller
OT: Zach Weigert
OT: Bob Newton
OG: Dean Steinkuhler
OG: Will Shields
C: Dave Rimington

DE: Grant Wistrom
DT: Ndamukong Suh
DT: Jason Peter
DE: Kyle Vanden Bosch
MG: Rich Glover
LB: Trev Alberts
LB: Lavonte David
LB: Broderick Thomas
S: Mike Brown
S: Josh Bullocks
CB: Ralph Brown
CB: Michael Booker
Rover: Mike Minter
KR: Johnny Rodgers
PR: Johnny Rodgers
K: Alex Henery
P: Kyle Larson

That is sound. Not sure who you could argue off of that list...

Not a problem. The FSU LBs and DL are a really great group. The DE spot is extra special.

You don't like him? If so, you lose a little cred bruh. He was a damn fine linebacker.

im a pats fan. their defense gives me massive headaches. hightower is good, but chandler jones (same draft class drafted higher) is my boy after wilfork on that team

whats special about the syracuse 44's is that none of them really reached their true potential IMO. wether it be due to racism (brown) tragedy (davis) or just bad luck (little)

Great Thread Mamba. Great to take this trip down College Football Memory Lane! You guys that are lifelong fans of all the traditional powers - it's way too tough to put them all in. I'll wait for a true Sooner to post for OU - so I'll stick to what I know best...and hope you'll find it entertaining.

mcnabb, you beat me to it. I had made my list and saw your post just before trying to put mine up. Looks like a lot of similar picks.

HC. There can be no doubt here. The 'dawg father' himself, Don James.

QB is a tough one. So many great ones. Warren Moon transformed UW and put Don James on the map. Hard to give it to either Billy joe hobert or Mark Brunell when they split duties, but both were on NC team. Cody pickett holds the record for most yards, but wasn't on a special kind of team. Sonny Sixkiller - with a name like sixkiller you have to be on a list amiright? Marques Tuiasosopo, but he was only there two years and it was his second year he killed it. Jake Locker for coming to UW when no one wanted to be here. Huard borhters? Not when one was known more for 'the pick'.

Meh

QB - Warren Moon
QB - Mark Brunell
RB - Napoleon Kaufman (Every Pac team hated him)
RB - Corey Dillion (Original beast mode, shredded the Pac)
RB - Greg Lewis (So I added 3, sue me)
WR - Mario Bailey (Hosed on the Heisman)
WR - Reggie Williams (A man among boys)
TE - Dave Williams (Still holds most TE records at UW)
OT - Lincoln Kennedy (Immovable object)
OT - Mike Zandofsky
OG - Benji Olson
OG - Bob Sapp
C - Olin Kreutz

DT - Steve Emtman (as if that was even a question)
DT - Larry Tripplett
DE - Jason Chorak
DE - Ron Holmes
LB - Dave Hoffman (Part of the '91 NC team)
LB - Chico Fraley
LB - Mark Stewart
DB - Lawyer Milloy (Most well rounded athlete as his position)
DB - Tommie Smith
DB - Al Worley
DB - Ray Horton
DB - Marcus Trufant (Ok, too fresh and I added an extra. Bah)

Does Wilson belong here? Played one yr for Wisconsin. I believe he threw for more career yards at NCST.

He had the best season for a QB in Wisconsin's history, and we aren't exactly stacked historically at the position. If I had to choose a QB for my team, it's Russell in a heartbeat.

Who's the top QB?

The guy with the highest QB rating in NCAA History. Which of the 16 teams chosen by ESPN have had better QBs? Cam, Vince Young, Tommy Frazier, and Tebow have cases. Maybe McCarron will a year from now. I guess I could possibly see arguments for Peyton or Weinke.

I'd still say Russell is on par with any of them, and certainly Russell's stats at Wisconsin are as good as any of theirs.

Anyone else have opinions about how the top 16 programs of the last 25 years stack up with regards to the best QB?

From what I've seen (only watched CFB for about 10 years), it's between Russell Wilson, Vince Young, and Tim Tebow. I'd take VY (by a slim margin), RW and TT are a toss-up for 2nd.
