Just watched clip from NFL Live OT about what they perceive to be the weaknesses of Seattle. I thought that it was a fair assessment given the lose of two pass rushers and the need for maturity given all the smack talk that has been going on this off season.

I have optimism that those issues have been dealt with. First, we did pick up some D-Line free agents this year so the cupboard is not completely bare, like during the Atlanta game, until Irvin and Clemons return. As for the maturity, I think that smack talk will go away once the training camp starts. In fact, you could see that Earl Thomas did not take the bait when he was interviewed and asked about the comments by JH. Bringing in a veteran like Antoine Winfield will help season our young secondary and them the leadership they need to win those games they should have won. Lastly, I think that the lose to Atlanta (and other 4th quarter loses) will make them work that much harder to not have those mental lapses that cost us games and ultimately, the division title.

That is precisely why I think KJ Wright was moved to the weakside. When Avril or Clemons takes the LT wide, it opens up a big enough gap for a blitzing KJ to beat the guard to the hole and be on the QB's back before he can release the rock.

If a team goes to a 2 TE set then KJ can pick up a TE with his size and length, no problem, or even take on the block via a running play his direction..

Most Hawk fans and every op fan will be shocked at how great KJ is going to be moving to the Weakside.:yahoo:

I thought the weaknesses they discussed were hilarious. If our biggest weaknesses from last season were lack of sacks and immaturity we must be a very solid team. How did our defense manage to dominate games without a good pass rush?? That just goes to show how dominate our dbacks are. And a lack of maturity because of what Sherman has said and tweeted? The guy is Standford educated and actually very articulate and is good natured in his smack talk. The addition of some prized DE's in the offseason and another year of maturity for this young team is just what the doctor ordered.

We are primed for a very deep run this year

I don't disagree that we have a very solid team. But to be a great team, it is the little things at this point that can make the difference between a wild card spot or being the division leader. In the Atlanta game, we had no pass rush to speak of. That was evident in the last series in which Matt Ryan could sit back and throw the ball uncontested. DB's can only guard for so long and even the best cannot cover great receivers forever.

Admittedly there is not many weaknesses on this team. My hope is that the rookie tackles and free agent linemen can provide some inside push and collapse the pocket so that the QB has to move some.

I am starting to change my tune as far as the "maturity" thing is concerned. I used to revel in the spotlight that the shit talking caused. I still could mind you,...

There seems a shift lately with the teams focus on the maturity front (recent Sherman interview). This shift towards restraint has me now respectful of the fact that they can actually play both sides of the coin. They are not limited to being crass, but can be businesslike too.

It is hard to not make the connection of Winfield joins -> secondary (Sherman) shifts image.

That I think will be one of the greatest benefits to adding Winfield. Not only do we great a great shutdown nickle corner but a leader that can help the secondary take it to another level and to do that, they need to remove all of the distractions that the media wants to bait them into. Just look at the two most recent interviews with Thomas and Sherman.

The talk of weakness on the defensive line makes sense because we won't be at full strength, even if Clemons is available by week 1, for the first month and won't be able to do the things all of us imagined we'd be able to do when we signed Avril and Bennett. It should be less of a weakness than it was last year, sure, but until we have our full complement of players out there, it's still going to be a weakness on this year's team.

The maturity thing seems like a direct reference to Sherman. How could it not be? He was the one Seahawks player consistently in the news cycle in the off-season and while I get that he felt disrespected and under-appreciated after the draft, the best way to handle that has always been dominating on the field. As long as he continues to dominate on the field without drawing too much attention to himself off of it, the whole maturity issue will cease to be an issue. I agree that having Winfield on the team should help there as well and I wouldn't be surprised if he's had a conversation or two with Sherman already.

to be honest i believe the Maturity thing was directed at the "PED" usage. Smack talking has been in the NFL from day 1 and is ate up by the press, They love it. Having players doing stupid things like taking a banned substance is the immaturity they speak of if you ask me.

I also agree with the pass rush being a weak spot. It was last season and will be this season unless they prove it to not be. It still will take them playing to prove it as of right now they have not proved a thing. Having only 2 pass rushers really last season ( Clemons and Irvin ) will not cut it so they went out and got some help. We still need to see how it works in games before it is not longer looked at as a weakness.

Tough to say without knowing all the details of his rehab. These injuries just aren't what they used to be.

I am not concerned in the least bit about maturity. When it comes time to work hard and play ball these guys put it down. Don't confuse the confidence for arrogance, hell if anyone should understand that it should be Chris Carter.

I would definitely say pass rush. I think losing Clemons killed us more than anything in that Atlanta game. That and Trufant giving up the 3rd and 10s everytime. Hopefully both of these are corrected.

I didn't know what thread to ask this question...

There were rumours this offseason that Sidney Rice might get cut. Does you think this could still be a possibility in training camp? Just curious if those rumours had any validity.

I don't see that happening this year. Now next year, it could happen because the Seahawks are going to pick and choice to some extent, due to the cap. I think a lot depends how various players pan out, Rice needs a break out season.

From what I can gather they are talking about next year. Rice's contract is huge and the addition of havrin (sp) ties up even more cap room. Add in the fact that are secondary is going to want to get paid, Thomas is next I think and you can see why some people think he's on the chopping block next year, unless he redo's his contract for a more team friendly contract. He's not alone there's also Miller who signed that big contract from the raiders a couple seasons ago. As for your question no as of right now Rice is safe, they are not going to get rid of him, but next year is the key factor. Also know this Golden tate's contract is up and he's going to want to get paid, add that to Rice and you could very well see this season as a contest for who Seattle is going to keep. If Rice puts up huge number they may not have the money or feel tate is worth it, same if tate dose well thus kicking the other off the team next year. :bawling:

I like Sydney Rice, but if we need to cut him to free up enough money to keep the Legion of Boom together in 2014, then we should cut him IMO.

I'm sure the Seahawks want to keep the Legion of Boom together. The one question mark is Sherman, because I don't see the Seahawks over paying any body, not even Sherman. If they can sign him to a fair contract they will, but if he's looking for some record making deal they'll pass, even if they cut Rice before hand IMO.

Cutting Rice and Miller NEXT season is what will probably happen.
That's a lot money money between those two. This year is settled, they will both be here THIS season.

Go Hawks.
