Brian Windhorst is reporting that the Detroit Pistons have offered Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva (both expiring contracts) to Toronto for Rudy Gay (due nearly $40M over the next two seasons).
Man, that would make Detroit a top 4 team in the East IMO. They'd be even better off with a serious PG, though. They should've gone after Bledsoe. The Clips hardly got shit.
That said -
PG - Jose Calderon (Assuming he re-signs, which I think will happen at this point)
SG - Brandon Knight/KCP
SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Greg Monroe
C - Andre Drummond
6th - KCP - Brandon Knight
That's a pretty damn solid lineup. If Drummond keeps improving, look out.
It is solid, not top 4 though. I think Calderon may actually fit this team better than Rondo. They have very few shot makers as it is. Gay clearly makes them a lot better since they are giving up nothing. In the end, their ability to take the next step will depend on the growth of Monroe and Drummond.
Poor man's Pacers?
I'd put them behind the Heat, Pacers and Nets in that order. I just can't get behind NY.
Bulls are better than the Nets and Pistons, hands down. I hear you on NY though. That one could go either way.
I definitely like Gay for them more than I like Smith.
Me too. Smith is an awesome player in his own right, but I feel like he needs to have a superstar on his team to get to the next level.
The Bulls are another team I'm just not huge on. Rose is awesome but man, is he soft. They need serious help at the 2. Who knows what's going on with Luol Deng anymore? I'd also take the combo of Monroe-Drummond over Boozer-Noah. Really, the only position I'd give the Bulls the edge at is PG, and that's only if Rose is healthy.
I'm just going to let you post for me from now on!The Bulls were the 4th best team in the East this year, maybe third as I don't believe the Knicks could have beat them in the playoffs if Deng and Hinrich had been healthy.
I would rather have Drummond and Monroe if I were building for the future, but if I had to win today I would take the Bulls front court. Boozer kind of Sucks, but Noah is a winner and Gibson is as good a back-up big as any in the league.
Rudy Gay is a good player, but not a difference maker as the Grizzlies proved. They didn't fully hit their stride until he left town.
Derrick Rose is a difference maker when healthy.
Perhaps the biggest X factor, however is Thibs. That guy is amazing. He is perhaps the best defensive coach the NBA has ever seen and one of the few coaches who has a significant impact on the game at the NBA level.
I like this possible move for the Pistons. Would give them a legit wing scorer. That said, it would be risky if they would not be able to resign R Guy in year two. Pistons have free agent money now, yet need to hold some to help resign Monroe next year.
