Scheffler was dealt for a 5th round pick when he was 27. He is now 30 and in the last year of his contract -- I don't see how anyone would trade a 4th rounder for him. I think people are overvaluing Scheffler's worth. He is a guy who will get you 30-35 catches and around 400 yards. Only way I see the Lions trying to unload him is to save themselves the 2 million owed to him. He does fill a need for the team, as Pettigrew doesn't run deeper routes and is more of a safety valve/extension of the running game.

IF the Lions could get a 4th rounder for Scheffler -- I hope they would make that deal in a heartbeat.

They would. But they might trade a third back in return if someone were to get injured. As Martin Mayhew is a retard.

If Fauria proves he can fill Sheffs role then maybe we could get a 5th for him. Teams would have to be crazy to give a 3 or 4, I just don't see it.

Most likely he is worth more to us this year then what any team could offer so we probably keep him 1 more year and then let him walk at age 31.

If the Lions hang on to Scheffler and Fauria looks promising in the pre-season then he may not be a LIon for long. We arent keeping 4 TE's and he isnt the guy who would best fit the role Heller has played. That's the kid from Alabama who is slower than erosion.

Unless I am not fully understanding the rule all I have to do to take him off the practice squad is put him on my 53 man roster. If you're the GM of a crappy team who is weak at TE (or even a team good at TE that has a free agent coming up) I put him on the roster and never activate him.

Get rid of Scheffler and his $2.95m salary cap hit for whatever value you might be able to get for him. Lions wont be able to afford any contract even close to that next year so he most likely wont be on the team in 2014 anyway. After the ridiculous contract signed by Jared Cook this offseason re-signing Pettigrew isnt going to be cheap.

:yahoo: "slower than erosion" Throughth, did you just go there?

I have never been accused of getting in a hurry.

And despite some holes in his game, Mayhew has done a good job of adding talent to this roster. We've had worse.

I have to agree we have talent. The team is stacked with it. So why do we disappoint? When you are 4-12 with a lot of talent the finger has to be pointed somewhere.

Some point it at WCF, some Mayhew, some JS.....Some just take it out on the weak spots or individual players they don't like.

But 4-12 warrants complaints.

If we're talking about pointing fingers, mine's pointed at the super-rich kid that got an extension today. If we're tallinbough retards who trade picks for nothing, then, yeah, I'm tallinbough Mayhew. Talent level had risen, no doubt. I just hate that Mike Thomas is a Lion.

Let you down in a fantasy league in 2011 did he?

I really can't see hating the addition of a guy with Thomas' talent for a 5th round pick. That's good business in my book.

If you want to be mad about a bad pick be mad about using a 4th rounder on Ronnell Lewis last year, or even giving up this year's 4th for Tahir Whithead. Think of all the talent that was there early in the 4th this year that we could have had...

I completely understand the Mike Thomas thing. I know he made you late for work that one time.

TPaul, if someone other team made the same move, I have a hard buying that'd you'd see it the same way. An undrafted PS guy jumped him on the depth chart. And another, whos a RB, was much more of a receiving target. And this was with the 2,3 and 4 WR options out. Plus BP sidelined. Why did Jville want to deal him? That's a question I've had in my mind since MM pulled the trigger.

That speedy little fugger is somehow slower than erosion, in the morning. (Evil-er's original geological put down quote wasn't aimed at you, but... Be patient, the next one might be)

Last I read Mike Thomas would be lucky to make the 53 man roster. They should have just shoved that 5th rounder in Shaq Harris' mouth and had him waddle down to Jacksonville and place in Khan's underpants waistband like the dirty whore he is.

In other news... Jville signed a fifth round pick today. The awful college QB who ended my lifetime stance as a Michigan fan. Cleeves doesnt know how to spell his name and muzz has a boner for him. But a guy who, I'd imagine will have more than 108 yards this year. ONE-HUNDRED and EIGHTTTTT..... That was Mike Thomas' season. Real strong down the stretch run, with 11 over our last five games/losses. If he's not cut, he'll giveThaddeus Lewis, Raiola and Akerlicious a run for their money as my most hated Lion. He's got the early lead... Just stubbed my toe on account of his tiny ass.

HEY! You leave Denard Robinson out of this sissy fight! Talent is talent. D-Rob is fast. He can miss a catch just as good as any WR in the league the only difference is Denard will be open. He's that fast!:laugh3:

Why leave him out of it? Just blame Mike Thomas for DRob not being a Lion!!! I'm blaming Mike Thomas for Leyland leaving JV in too long tonight. And for bringing NewMexico in.

Why did Denver give us Scheffler? Why did the Falcons let go of Houston? Why did the Browns give up Corey Williams? Or the Seahawks with Rob Sims?

The ususal answer is that they just didn't fit their team's plans, so they became available.

We got all those guys for a 5th rounder or less each, and they all worked out pretty good for us I'd say...

Gave that post an enthusiastic thumbs-up. Spot on correct. If he makes the team, and that's a big if, he is going to have to be incredible this year or there isn't any chance he's back in 2014. No way are we going to pay that contract.

He's a $1.5m hit this year which is expensive enough for the crappy production we will probably get but there isn't a snowball's chance in hell we are going to pay his $3.5m cap hit in 2014. This was a shit trade that Mayhew royally butchered. This one was Millen-esqe. :hdn:

Worked out pretty well? Mike Thomas is basically worthless. He has seven TDs in his career. And we gave up Ernie Sims for Scheffler, the Iggles traded picks to Denver.
