LOL, glad Spo didn't get the award.

Anyone have the numbers on the last COY to not be fired with in a few seasons?

It looks like Pop is the only guy who doesn't fired after winning the award.

It was the right move.

It was unfortunate that he won "COY" in 2013, but this was based on his 10 year body of work.

16 of the 32 teams make the playoffs.
You essentially are hand delivered a 53% chance of making the playoffs by pure math.

Making the post-season is the minimum for a coach.
Making deep runs in the only way to keep a job.

Karl could not do what he was paid to do.
Win in the post-season.

Guys like Avery Johnson, Mike D'Antoni, and Mike Brown all achieved far more playoff success during the 10 years of Karl.

They were all fired as well since they did not get it done in the playoffs.

Any complaining about this ignores the NBA precedents.

Wouldn't that be a 50% chance of making the playoffs?

Other than that, I agree with your post. Karl seems like a great guy, but his playoff record is abysmal. Time to move on and try to find someone who can get it done in the playoffs.

The Lakers and Carmelo didn't help Karl though.

Wouldn't that be a 50% chance of making the playoffs?

it was a typo.

There are 30 teams in the NBA not 32.

Either way it did not take away from the point.

Making the NBA playoffs is not quite an insurmountable feat.

You actually have to win in the playoffs to earn your pay.

Any outrage over George Karl simply ignore the last 40 years of the NBA and coach firings.

Scott Brooks has not been fired yet after winning the award a couple years ago, although...

He should not have won to begin with and he should be fired as soon as the Thunder can lure a better candidate.

I really do enjoy Karl coached teams but he needs a major star on his rosters to go deep in the playoffs. His brand of basketball does not translate to success in the post season. I wondered how long the Denver org was going to continue to get duped.

Id laugh if the Grizzlies and Nuggets swapped coaches. Hollinger was on the nuts of the Nuggets before the season started IIRC.

I dont think you can totally blame Karl for his team's playoff performances. The West has always been brutal. He does need more talent on his teams but the Nuggets still beat the Warriors if the Warriors dont 'go off' in Denver with literally the best shooting performance Ive ever seen
