I don't understand this move...
The #2, #9, and #40 recruits in the Class of 2014 are from Minnesota. The #1 recruit (from Chicago) has said he will go wherever #2 goes. The #34 recruit is #1's high school teammate and will likely go where he goes.
Minnesota thinks they have the chance for a short-term dynasty, so they are going to try to bring in a coach that can land those guys. Apparently, the recruits didn't like Tubby.
Was there something internally going on because on the outside, I'm like who the eff does Minny think they can get that's better, it's Minny. Which makes me think its something like VT had with Greenberg. He was arguably our most successful coach ever but we fired him because he had become a pretty big douche that pissed off a lot of people in the department and drove away assistants/players. So on the outside you're like "WTF is VT doing" but its just because you don't know all the details
No, he was just a shitty coach. He had one of the best shooters in America on his team, and they never figured out he should be the guy taking the shot at the end of the shot clock. His teams always came out flat. They let up tons of wide open threes.
If you have the best shooter in a conference and the best rebounder and the best true athlete, you should be better than 8-10. They weren't.
They also probably think they can get Shaka Smart, because Shaka is from the Midwest (Madison) and his old AD is Norwood Teague from MN. I don't think they'll get him, but they'll still likely get an upgrade from Tubby if they conduct a good national search.
where is shanesman.......i told you so.
UCLA's probably got the edge on Shaka Smart.
Not really. Minnesota's AD was once the VCU AD, and several of his staff went with him from VCU to Minnesota. Also, it's being reported that Smart was seen in the Minneapolis airport this afternoon.
