Ned Yost going crazy with the over managing here. Apparently he didn't get the memo that Murphy has been very good against lefties this year. Sure enough, Murph gets on. Hope taking out your best reliever and burning a lefty reliever for one hit batter was worth it.

Josh just embarrasses himself about half the time at the plate. No excuse ever for swinging at pitches which bounce a foot in front of the plate. The HR's are great, but the approach at the plate is just lousy.

To be fair the umpire screwed him with two bull shit called strikes. I'm sure it's hard to stay disciplined when the umpire screws with you like that.

Dang, Soto didn't hurt them. Oh well, we can get the win now.

True. This ump has been very shaky. He gave Collins a couple of really low strikes, then he turned right around and called the same exact pitches balls for Adams. Now he's back to giving the Royals pitchers that low strike.

Why am I more worried about the Angels than the A's at this point? Angels pitching has come around and if they get into the playoffs I wouldn't want to face Weaver, Grienke, Haren, and Wilson if they keep going like they are.

and now the A's have lost McCarthy for possibly the rest of the season with a skull fracture and brain contusion following being hit by a line drive. he under went 2 hours of surgery

Tough luck for McCarthy ... having an excellent season after losing so much time with shoulder issues while pitching for TEX.

Coupled with OAK's loss of Colon might be hard for OAK sustaining their hot run.

They've been playing without a healthy McCarthy most of this season, they have the rotation depth to cover this loss easily (Straily, Anderson, Griffin, Blackley, Milone, Parker maybe even Peacock)

McCarthy will just be one of those guys that's healthy for a whole season til its too late

all true but it has to hurt them to lose him when he's been as hot as he's been

No McCarthy and no Colon will make it awfully tough for them to make a significant push down the stretch.

Yea but as JTA points out ... they have deep pitching talent ... and compare what they still have to TEX 2010 staff that went to the WS ...

33GS -- CJ Wilson
32GS -- Colby Lewis
22GS -- Scott Feldman
22GS -- Tommy Hunter
15GS -- Cliff Lee
18GS -- Rich Harden
6GS -- Matt Harrison
10GS -- Derek Holland
2GS -- Dustin Nippert
2GS -- Omar Beltre

Now ... tell me that neither OAK or BAL has a better staff today than the 2010 TEX staff was.

Even with Colon and McCarthy out ... I think it best to not sell either of them short considering their offenses too. Will it be tougher for OAK w/out them ... yes as you noted ... but certainly not insurmountable.

Colon's suspension was filled in by Brett Anderson who has gone 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 20 innings so they haven't missed much in his absence. What may make it difficult for them is when the timely hitting gets squeezed by better pitching.

Nippert was absolutely nails for the Rangers in a few of those appearances. Now he's out of the game. Just goes to show you how razor thin the line is in baseball between significant MLB contributor and guy at home watching on his couch.
