The only good thing about this set up is if the higher seeded team can steal a game away then they come home for a three game stretch only needing to win three.

Not talking about that im talking about if we aplit 1 on the road we need to win 2 out of 3

Since good chance that the WC teams will put up their best SP for their one game "play in" ... then that guy isn't going to be available to open the series against the #1.

So you are right ... #1 comes in with 2 days off ... rotation set ... and if it splits on the road it goes home needing to win only 2 of 3 ... and the WC ace isn't available until game 5 ... if there is one.

While starting on the road is a bummer ... I think because of the WC game that the #1 has a bigger advantage than the normal 2-2-1 gives them when both teams can set their rotation.

Potential WC teams today ... OAK, BAL, DET (or CHW), TBR (or NYY). Speculating ... I have a feeling it's going to turn out to be NYY and DET. We shall see.

LAA has a tough road ... 19 of 32 games against folks in the hunt themselves.

OAK: 7 games (@3 and vs4)
DET: 3 games (vs3)
CHW: 3 games (vs3)
TEX: 6 games (@3 and vs3)

Only potentially soft games are 1@BOS, 3@KCR, and 9 (6@, 3vs) w/SEA. (What a crazy schedule for LAA to have nearly half its games with SEA yet to be played).

LAA might make it in ... but good chance that OAK and LAA will do so much damage to each other that neither make it.

We face them in 7 of the next 10 games. I think we have a legitimate shot at going 4-3 or even 5-2 against them. Between those two series we have the Jays and they have the Rays.

edit: There is also the very real possibility that they go 4-3 or 5-2 against us...

Are you planning another home run derby against us?

Well I wouldn't be sad if it turned out that way. Just he sure to pitch Tommy Hunter against us twice. :boink:

Just out of curiosity, if you guys do take one of the Wild Card spots, who do you think would pitch the play-in game, Wei-Yen Chin, Chris Tillman, or Jason Hammel? And who would start Game 1 of the ALDS?

Was just working that out too. If BAL stays with its rotation and Chen pitches every fifth game ... then he is on track to pitch the last game of the regular season against TBR. That could be a very decisive game for both BAL and TBR.

On that schedule then Tillman would pitch the play-in game if nothing were to change (which of course it will). That means Saunders would be in line for the first game of the ALDS.

ALE is going to get very heated between NYY-BAL-TBR both for division championship and one or both AL wild cards.

Would love BAL to take top or a wild card spot and bump the NYY out of the playoffs.

LOL, I can hear the ESPN exec heads exploding now with no BOS, NYY, or PHL in the playoffs. Instead they end up with Texas, OAK, TPA, BAL and DET? Wow, they would die.

Hammel was their ace in the first half and he is set to take the mound for a few rehab starts in the minors and then re-join the rotation. I would think at that point that the O's would re-shuffle their rotation.

I'm assuming that Hammel-Chen-Tillman-Saunders will be their playoff rotation. On the surface it's underwhelming and won't blow anyone away. But that group is as underrated as it gets. The top 3 especially have all very quietly put up nice seasons. They're a bit like Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis have been over the last 2 seasons. No one is scared of them until they've just shut you down.

Everyone keeps talking about Baltimore and Oakland fading eventually and either TB, Detroit, or LAA taking over. I don't see that happening, especially with Baltimore. I think at the very worst for them they're in a dead heat for that last Wild Card spot until the final day.

Then again, I don't understand how Oakland's lineup of minor league spares and rejects fighting to stay above the Mendoza line can put up over 17 runs in a game. That team has a grand total of 1 player hitting above .260 and only a few more hitting above .240, and yet they're winning games for the team even moreso than the pitching.

As long as the Angels fail to make the playoffs, I'll be happy. I even like the Yankees better than them, something I never thought I would ever say about any team.
