Greinke has turned his numbers around this year and is giving up more grounders than fly balls. Hamels is still a fly ball pitcher. Greinke seems like a better fit at the ballpark for that reason.

I have issues with both Greinke and Hamels. Greinke has emotional problems.I think its anxiety disorder. There was an incident several starts ago where he visibly got upset with the umpire.Threw his glove or something like that.I don't know if we could chance using him in high pressure situation like a post season game. The only thing going for him is that Dallas is less stressf environment to deal with than say,NY or LA

Looks like Hamels is set to resign with the Phillies. He would be a rental if he did turn to the open market and he has expressed interest in playing for Philly again after the year was over. We'd have to give up too much to aquire him for just a few months of his services
I do like the idea of Cliff Lee returning. At least he would be here longer term and would be worth giving up a couple of roster players and a top prospect or two

Been reading from various sources that the Rangers are more interested in an extra bat than starting pitcher but since it appears Lewis may wind up having to skip his next start and could be put back on the DL,we need a solid starting pitcher more.Even heard rumor that Carlos Ruiz could be involved with a deal for Lee.Don't know whats going to go down during the trade deadline but its ossible JD could pull off a surprise deal

I am with you on this as well. This arm issue with Colby cant be taken lightly. About two weeks ago I thought the Rangers might have interest in Greinke, but after watching his last few starts I would stay away from him. There is definitely some unstability with his emotions. The Rangers probably see this too.
Aside from Hamels, C.Lee is the only pitcher that might be available(of the pitchers rumored) that I trust in a playoff atmosphere. Like you said JD may have something brewing we all have not heard about

And its being reported Oswalt will likely be going on the DL list. His back problem has reared its ugly head again.Definately have to get a starting pitcher before the trade deadline ends July 31st.As of right now,Darvish and Harrison are our only reliable starters.Don't trust Holland. We can't get by with a patchwork of Feldman(good lord),Ogando and minor league up and comers

Yet thats exactly what we've been doing and its not the pitching thats holding us back as of now, its the offense

You can't just give into the ridiculous demands b/c teams percieve weakness on our part, if we stand pat their demands will become more reasonable

Like I said elsewhere, the Phillies are more desperate to shed future salary than the Rangers are for starting pitching in the next couple weeks

I'm thinking more about the post season.Right now,who other than Darvish and Harrison would be your rotation for the playoffs? We may be able to get by now with a myriad of replacements but we need guys we can count on to shut down the opposition.Holland will be risky.Certainly not Feldman. Will Oswalt have back stiffness by then, too? I'd like to be able to have a healthy Colby,Harrison,Darvish and Lee

Why don't you give Holland a couple more starts to get his legs under him before you start calling him unreliable.

I'm making my point for the purpose of the playoffs, don't panic and let the price come down, if it never becomes reasonable you might just have to settle for a playoff appearance without the WS appearance this year

Its counterproductive when you have excellent minor league depth capable of sustaining a long run over several years and sell it off in hopes of pulling it out this year

Its not like we're the Tigers, Phillies or Yankees that have to go all in bc they're aging franchises

Don't forget about Ogando and Feliz that could eventually slot into the rotation if need be, but I don't think OSwalt's back is that big of a problem, probably just needs a skip in the rotation, or if he goes on the DL he misses 2 starts

Feliz is weeks away from being ready ... and converting Ogando to the rotation will take some time too with him just off the DL.

I was thinking a little further down the line, I'm not too worried about the short term

You should be. Every game is pretty important right now.

Even with us stinking and the Angels being hot we still have about the same lead as before

Not worried at all, you can worry yourself into a frenzy but I certainly won't

JD and Nolan will do their due diligence and thats good with me

Way to leave the core of my comment out of your response,

I'll sacrifice the WS this year for more chances in the future, thanks for playing
