You're getting into some volatile shit now.

I agree with you but only because it was allowed to be used by the KKK with no one making any kind of issue about it.

It actually was a proud symbol of southern history and refusal to bow to the federal powers.

Even the Klan was initially more of a protection against injustices done by the federal government than a racial hate organization and it did not fly the confederate flag until the civil rights movement. Because no one spoke against this flag being used to represent racism my feeling is that it was allowed to become a symbol of racism.

fun fact: Governor Sam Houston was forced out of office because he refused to give an oath to the Confederate States of America.

The battle flag was adopted as the national flag of the south in 1863, during the civil war....... the war over slavery- not injustices done by the federal government..

My dad told me that you see it everywhere in Tennessee.

i will start by saying i am pro-north all the way, as well as very anti-slavery. however, the war started over the rights of the state. slavery just happened to be what they disagreed about.

the "right of the state"- The states didn't care enough over a centralized bank to go to war- but when lincoln made office and wanted to abolish slavery "der dum damn govment cant tell us what to do der"

See the northerners saw it as a war against slavery. But most southerners saw it and see it as a federal agression. Before the civil war most felt that the Dredd Scott decision reinforced the view that the powers of state superceded those of the federal government and the property (slave) of someone from one state remained their property in another. The north rejected this but it was for the most part states were sovereign and a federation of states made up the United States or Federal government.

With the election of Lincoln his objective was to reverse this by outlawing slavery. This is why one part of the country says the war was about slavery and the other about federal aggression. Realistically though after the Civil war powers were basically reversed and throughout the years the federal governments power has increased to the point it is today that a legislative body of a state can be overturned by a court of the federal government.

To say that the civil war was not over the right to keep slaves is just silly sir......

You do realize that there were northern states that allowed slavery at the time of the war also don't you?
