The whole thing's pretty weird. Is his defense THAT bad?
Last year Bregman lead third baseman in defensive runs scored. Devers was ranked last, at -62.

Fleshing that number out, Miguel Cabrera, had a -57, for his entire career as a third baseman.

That's what I thought, but they seem hell bent on keeping him at DH.

They told him that Bregman would be playing 3B and that he'd DH. After Casas got injured, they talked with him about playing 1B, but his reaction was that they told him he'd be a DH, so he doesn't want to play any position anymore.

Yeah, I knew the 1B story, I guess he's pissed off now about the entire situation.

He's not exactly a team player, but I don't think Red Sox management handled this very well, either.
