Just got home from a weekend away with Mrs 43. We got a house on Lake Erie where we could have watched the sunset from our hot tub, if there was ever a day in Ohio that wasn't cloudy.

The little town nearby is an old resort town, and it apparently hasn't changed much since the 50's. Old school arcade games like Skee-ball and fascination. The Bubble hockey table was Leafs/Habs. And the best place to eat is a 50's grill stand that only sells hot dogs, cheeseburgers and root beer from a barrel. They added a fish sandwich in the 80's. Only cash. The downside is the town has apparently been adopted by bikers - every place had a welcome bikers sign because those tough ass roughneck individualists need their safe, accepting spaces. You can tell who the individualists are because they all dress exactly the same.

What is it about buying a motorcycle that makes you want to shave your head, but grow a long goatee?

The house we stayed in was on the other side of the park in Madison. So the cacophony of motorcycle noise was faint.
We used to go up there a lot as kids, my cousins family still goes up there and I know he said it's like going back in time.

I would bet that nearly everything is exactly the same as you remember. A few "newer" businesses like a laser tag/rage room place. But everything else looks like like it's only gotten a coat of paint and nothing else.

Also, I learned that this is a thing. As we were getting close to our rental I saw this flag. Then I noticed the house we were saying in had it. I saw a few others.

My concern was it was some sort of "51st state" thing, but it's a Canada/USA friendship flag. It's to symbolize how similar we are and how much we (should) rely on each other.

It's like when everyone with iTunes got a U2 album whether they wanted it or not, now all Spotify users have to listen this crap.

Last time I was there was over 20 years ago. And as @forty_three mentioned about the Bikers coming in is why I have avoided it ever since.

And BTW....South Park summed them up best long ago.

I'm going to start sporting that here in the South. Should go over well.

"Great milkshakes though..." :laugh3:

I really like the That's a Bad Idea guys. They have some great stuff.
Same. I like it when they toss in the very subtle things you have to catch.

^ I was talking to someone who has a boat on the lake. He actually defended this by stating it is the busiest lake so this is expected. Umm no, if people actually did the right thing it would not happen that often. Way too much drinking and lack of life jacket usage causes a lot of these deaths. Hate to say I don't care how good of shape you are in, that guy in a Kayake not wearing a life jacket is a recipe for disaster.

I feel bad no matter what but lots of these could be avoided.

My family had a cabin on Little Round Bay off the Severn River from like 1955 to 2004 and the water was always busy. As far as I know, there was never a single accident there, and certainly don't remember any fatalities. The closest we ever came is when my cousin Kevin almost died in the "barnyard animals into the water" game where you run and jump off the pier and as soon as you jump someone shouts the name of an animal and you have to make the sound of said animal before you hit the water. His animal was "platypus" and he was screaming WHAT as he hit the water and his lungs began filling with water. It's okay we got him out and gave him "cat" for the next round.

I said to my wife when I had to use the bathroom that I expected a whites only sign above it.

Old dude working there overheard and apparently gave me an annoyed look.
Similar topic and never forgot this one. I "won" a trip to the Greenbriar resort in WV many years ago for work.
So when we got there and were going to check into our room. I said to my wife, ahh nothing like staying the Old Up tighty whitey resort.

The scoff I got from some old woman that happened to hear me was priceless. We laugh about that to this day.

NOTE: Didn't want to go but the wife got plenty of free spa stuff and I got the free off-road driving in an expensive range rover was what made us go.

Your almost weekly posts on lake lanier blow my mind lol

Lake okanagan up here is double the size and had 29 deaths on it in 10 years between 2013 and 2023. And this is a party lake … heavy drinking (drug use). Plus lots of boat rentals so it loads of inexperienced boaters who dont know what theyre doing not following signs on areas that say no wake.

Theres a super busy public boat launch in downtown kelowna and you will see … boat after boat …15 skin leathered and tatted up people squeeze onto a 21 footer while bringing on cooler after cooler of booze and they somehow manage to make it back to shore in one piece. Mind you i have witnessed a boat explode here because the person didnt turn their blower on and a boat slowly sink after launching because the no one put the drain plug back in.

Speaking only about boaters, the only difference i see is lake lanier is filled with idiots who voted trump :noidea: lol

You guys are comparing Lake Lanier body counts to other bodies of water like they are all accidents, instead of "accidents".
