I will never forget getting to the baseball park two hours early On Opening Day I’m guessing it’s been at least 10 years ago obviously against the Angels and yes Opening Day in Seattle was cloudy skies exceptionally cool at 1 o’clock start on a weekday as well as as maybe 40 something degrees at around 11:15 when the angels were taking batting practice on the field

Usually, I’m never there that early taking in batting practice but I had to catch a super early train down to the baseball park area and the train that left the Everett area Last was around I think 9 AM or so so I had to get down there superduper early had an overpriced shitty yuppie breakfast at some little Small high strong place to eat, but anyway back to my story

Mike Trout stepped into the batting cage and took I think four or five swings and you could tell he was not giving it his full effort just as nice normal swing five swings five home runs to different parts of the ballpark every single one flew over the fence

All the previous batters took their multiple swings maybe 40 or 50 swings that I saw between about a half a dozen other players resulted in two balls going over the fence

It was absolutely amazing what that man did on that 45° morning with I believe the wind also blowing in a little at Safeco

I can’t remember what he did in the game because my memory of what he did in batting practice is what stood out that day

But I’m positive it was Felix on the bump and we all know what Mike Trout did On Opening Day against Felix multiple multiple times at the ballpark

I hope he goes out and glory. Also, just not in a series versus Mariners in a big moment. It hurts us.
That is pretty cool. I know I saw the Angels play a few times during Trout's career, but I can't recall much about those games. Several were in Anaheim. I just remember it was scorching hot, and I lived in AZ. Cool you have those memories.

Before I even watched that video, I knew one of the key points was gonna be him chasing pitches off the plate and getting jammed inside and swinging at balls in the fricking dirt

He just does not have pitch recognition like a lot of major league hitters. Do he just goes fishing and makes his mind up to swing and can’t hold a bat back when the ball is nowhere near the strike zone and gets dug deep in the hole and word is out around the league you don’t need to throw him strikes to get him out. He’ll swing at bad pitches.

Why the hell would any pitch in the league? Want to throw the ball across the plate to him? He’s proving time and time again he will chase balls well outside the zone.

And like that video said you swing at over 300 of them and get just 17 hits that’s a pretty piss poor batting average

Related to the Julio post right above

Leave it to the cheap ass, Mariners to throw open the purse and splash the pot big on an absolute bust of a baseball player Julio Rodriguez

He needs a major attitude adjustment by either being benched or pitch, hit for multiple times in clutch situations and absolutely bumped to the bottom of the batting order until he earns his way back to the top.

Any other player posting up those poor numbers is getting sent back down to AAA, which is obviously not an option with him

We are stuck with him you could not give that guy away to another team

Foolio was never paid that much for his talent. he was paid for his draw. It doesn't make sense any other way.

I saw his highlights vs Dodgers and he couldn't even get it to the plate. Something is broken there. I don't have faith in Gilbert finishing the year so picking up a #2 would be huge. I was thinking Sonny Gray as being a good option, but Sandy's name has been bouncing around again (not with the Mariners) so I was curious. He is cheaper now than ever to get.
Sonny Gray isn't a bad idea but I also don't want to give up a high prospect unless it's for a power bat.
Phillies smoked SA. His location is off, velo is down and his confidence is shot. He's not worth any prospect and definitely can't have in the rotation.

I looked up Gray and he is making too much money for the M's to get. It's like $75M for this year and next plus an option decline fee in 2027. I don't see it.
