Sunday 4/6 was not a good day for the infant Giants as all four minor league teams lost.

Sacramento lost 11-4
Richmond lost 5-4
Eugene lost 5-4
San Jose lost 6-4

The good news is that anyone betting on all four Giants' farm teams scoring four runs probably made a few bucks.

Carson Whisenhunt last night:
6 IP
4 H
0 ER
0 BB
2 SO (7 swinging strikes)

and it’s the 2nd straight start he has not issued a walk

WHIZ IS COMING
JV replacement? I guess Birdsong is first in line

Yeah, I think Birdie is the next in line.

Damn. How fast Harry is forgotten.
I would think the order is:

Harrison
Birdsong
Whisenhunt

First two are on the 40 man roster, Harrison has had more time in the big leagues and he is starting. Birdsong is hard to put in the number 2 spot because he is not pitching many innings. Would that begin him as an opener if he got moved to the rotation?

Of course, this order can all change but I think this is where its at as of right now.

Whisenhunt had all his pitches working yesterday. 6 IP, 0 ER, H, BB, 9 Ks. Threw 87 pitches - 58 strikes, sinker/changeup were solid as always, mixed slider in quite a bit to steal strikes and generate a couple whiffs. Really positive development so far this season.

Kyle Harrison has tallied 23 strikeouts against 6 walks across 15 innings with Sacramento this spring. The strikeout rate (13.8 K/9) is closer to where it was in 2023 (14.4 K/9) while the walk total is down. His four-seamer sits at 93.5 MPH, which is where it was in 2023.

Thank god. His nose dive in the org chart since the end of last season was really concerning.

We have at least 3, maybe 4 SERIOUS pitching prospects on the cusp right now. I would not be against putting one in a package to acquire a major bat.

Does any other org have a foursome that would compare to Harrison, Whisenhunt, Birdsong and Roupp? We also have Black, Waite, Beck, Winn, Seymour, …

What major bat would you think we could get? And an outfielder / DH, I’m guessing?

No idea. Injuries could dictate. If we want to step up to challenge the BIG BOYS, though, getting star power is a must. JHL and Ramos, I think, are good enough, but Yaz can be replaced. I have never been that high on Matos, so I don’t see him being any kind of roadblock in adding a stud OFer. I also like the idea of Fitz as a utility player, so I think 2B is an opportunity for improvement. As much as Bailey is a wizard with the glove, he really has developed into a one-dimensional player, so there is room for improvement there as well. Maybe get a 1B at the deadline as a rental? I don’t want to block Eldridge, though, but we have to remember that he is in no way a sure thing.
