Lavi fined 10 grand, Granato $2500

A heated argument between Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette and Pittsburgh Penguins assistant Tony Granato will cost both men some money.

The NHL fined Laviolette US$10,000 and Granato $2,500 Monday following an incident that saw them stand on the boards and yell at one another late in Philadelphia's 6-4 win on Sunday afternoon.

The trouble started after Pittsburgh's Joe Vitale laid out Danny Briere of the Flyers with a clean hit that sparked a melee on the ice.

Laviolette responded by smashing a stick in frustration, drawing the ire of the Penguins bench in the process.

The Flyers coach later said it was "gutless" for counterpart Dan Bylsma to have his fourth line on the ice with so little time left in the game.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are expected to face one another in the first round of the playoffs.

I heard a interesting thought on Lavy and his post game comments.

Basically it went something like...Since when a team that plays as physical as the flyers so upset that the pens had forth liners on the ice.

Not sure if coaches fines are tax deductable; I'm pretty sure most suspensions and their accompanying losses of salary are for the players, so coaches should be afforded the same criteria.

/Seems to me to be a "necessary" business expense.

Honestly, the whole "why is this line out there, why is he out there...?" is really fucking lame. Last time I checked this is a professional sport, and these guys get paid a shit ton of money. Anyone could and should be out there at any time. There should be no bitching, crying, complaining or whining.

Guess these guys dont understand a great 4th line can do more then just drop the gloves. We are spoiled to have a 4th line that can actually play the game and will in the playoffs unlike both the pens and Flyers.
