I'm obviously new to the Lakers board, so question for the old timers like me but were here back in the day...Shaq was kind of out of shape coming into camp every year right? How did that work out? Asking for a friend...

Worked out OK until he decided to rehab an injury during the season instead of the offseason, then shouted at the TV cameras during an early game "pay me!". Shaq's issues led to a divide with Kobe that ended with Kobe saying during a free agency offseason "me or him".

You're proving Luka's greatness. The Lakers have gone from an also ran in the West to the favorite in your eyes

Lakers were on track to avoid the play in before the trade IMO. It's a bump up in that Luka is a steadier offensive performer that Davis, but the defense is obviously considerably affected (losing both AD and Christie will do that).

Yeah, easier to name celebrities that hadn't been to those parties. Doesn't mean they were participating in the festivities (do see Beyonce doing that lol?), just the "in" parties to attend at the time.

Lebron is the biggest name in sports. Anyone who comes with some shit about him now is full of shit.

How did their D look last night? Sorry, I just realize what Luka is. No offense to AD, I'm UK Cowboy because my favorite teams are the Cowboys and the U of Ky Basketball team, needless to say, im an AD fan as well. But the trade was ridiculous. It would have been ridiculous had they kicked in Reaves and a couple more 1sts as well. You dont trade the kid at 25 years old, just like you don't trade guys named Jordan or Bird or Mahomes....not unless you're fucking stupid.

Surely we can't compare Luka to peak shaq was arguably the 2nd most dominant player in nba history right behind MJ. Shaq was 7'1 so it was ok if he was large. He wasn't a smaller perimeter player

Shaq first 7 years
27.5 PPG 12.4 RPG 2.5 APG
Luka first 7 years
28.6 PPG 8.6 RPG 8.2 APG

Shaq was 28 when he won his first Championship. Luka just turned 26 and went to the Finals last year, so we'll see about that.

When Shaq did win his Titles, he only did so when paired with in their prime Kobe or DWade. Never on his on

Looks pretty damn comparable to me

To me the trade of Luka is even more insane from a financial standpoint. Nba has a spending floor anyway, Luka ends up paying for himself with the fans he brings. I guarantee the Mavs take a hit revenue wise, especially if they lose Kyrie

No question. The Mavs lined up several sponsorships for Luka's return, which his camp squashed when they heard about it. I've heard estimates that the Mavs will lose $100M and that's conservative. He's one of the most popular players in the world. Hell, last night was a home game for the Lakers, likely the loudest one of the season lol.

I heard what I thought was a good point about a playoff formula for the Lakers from last night. Let Luka take the role the first 3 quarters then a rested LBJ is the best player on the court the 4th quarter

Not denying any of that. My point was there hasn't been a huge bump in their wins yet, at least partially due to time missed by Lebron. For W/L, they are more or less on the same path they were pre-trade.

Sometimes that works, other times he's a turnover machine. He's been hit and miss since his injury.

Everyone has to win with someone. You think Luka is going to will his way to multiple titles playing 1 on 5 pickup ISO ball and playing with no other superstar in their prime? Not every team in the playoff is going to be a depleted Mavs team missing their best player Kyrie Irving dude. And Heck they still barely got by the Mavs.

It's not totally 1 v 5. LeBron had what, 27 points? If Reaves can chip in, they've got a pretty solid couple guys behind Luka.

Can't rely on Lebron for multiple rounds of the leagues best at this age IMO. He's probably buttered up for a big injury soon with his mileage that will end his career. Reaves isn't enough. Hes a nice player but hardly a superstar

I think they just need one more above average guy, and they should be set. Luka can't score half their points every game.

Well maybe.. Defense is the big issue with the team IMO. Can they shut enough top teams down in a best of 7 for 4 rounds. Thats a big ask Remains to be seen. They're also too 3 dependent on offense. What if that isn't falling?
