The Ravens are a top 2 team in the league
And I’m honestly not sure how much of it is because of Lamar. Hopefully he peaks at the right time.

It's a combo platter. Some of the issue began before Lincoln Riley took over. There had been a sizeable drop in the recruiting and performance of the defense under Helton. When Riley took over, the defensive cupboard wasn't exactly bare, but it was close.

In some ways, the defense this year has been better than last year, but they have also had a more difficult schedule than last year so it doesn't show statistically.

The biggest issue, imo, is the front 7 is too small. Bear Alexander and Solomon Byrd are a good start as far as size, but that's only 2 guys.

They definitely need to replace Bennie Wiley the strength and conditioning coach. The players do not appear to be gaining any strength or weight and that's on him.

Grinch's biggest problem is that he doesn't seem to know whether he wants to have an aggressive defense that flies around and attacks or a defense that "outschemes" everyone. The end result is that he doesn't have either. Having watched every play of every game, this defense has actually looked pretty decent when they have been allowed to play more aggressively. It allows them to use quickness, speed and athleticism to offset some of the size difference.

If he'd just commit to that, it would help. They still wouldn't be a great defense, but they'd be a helluva lot better than they've been.

The off-season is going to be interesting. Folks are calling for the heads of both Grinch and Wylie at a minimum. The new AD that USC hired, who has been credited with the hires that have turned UW around, didn't hire Riley and therefore, has no loyalty to him. If Riley balks at firing Grinch and/or Wiley, it will be interesting to see if she overrules him.

To Riley's credit, he finally addressed the defense issue in a way other than to just defend it, saying that it's not acceptable and will be addressed at the appropriate time. Prior to this, he has only defended them. Hopefully it means that he has finally learned that you have to, at the very least, have a defense that can get a stop or 2 when they really need it.

Grinch is fired?

soooo

Yep, appears to have been happening literally as I was typing the post you quoted. lol

Looks like DL Coach Shaun Tua and Inside Linebackers/Defensive Head Coach Brian Odom will be Co-DC's. They also elevated Defensive Analyst Taylor Mays to on field assistant coach to work with the safeties.

I really like Taylor Mays getting to work directly with the safeties. He was a 3x All-American safety during the Pete Caroll era. He was aggressive and loved to hit people. Hopefully, he can get our current safeties to play that way.

Jacobs had 52 yards running before contact. The Giants not even trying to tackle him? LOL.

Jacobs has 18 carries for 85 yards and 2 scores in the first half.

On pace for his best game of the season.

Watson definitely has issues but the gap between him and Walker is ridiculous
No doubt when you wrote this he was not playing particularly well. seemed hesitant to throw downfield. Have to give credit where due and he played much better in the second half once he seemed less worried about throwing deeper passes. That deep one to Coop among the best one could see. Could not have been placed any better if he handed it to him.

Can he build on it next week? We shall see.

something that surprised me if I read it right......graphic said stefanski is #3 in the history of the sport in winning % following a loss?
