Why did they think this guy had big league stuff ?

He just had Lowe 0-2 and then threw 2 strikes and one of them got hit for an rbi single ??

Why are you throwing strikes to a guy down 0-2 in the count?

No velocity or movement on his fastball and his lazy weak spinning 'slider' is a nothing burger.

I hope he enjoyed his 1 day big league career.
The non-movement of his pitches is what shocked me the most. Just dead straight on fastball and very little movement on slider. He threw 97-98 but everything was a perfect strike like in perfect for batting practice. Maybe next time out.

Well damn, for sure any significant upgrade offensively for sure is going to cost Ford and Young.

Baseball is a different critter.

Adding just one solid bat has impact on all of the other pieces around them, and not just literally with the guy hitting one spot either way of them in the lineup.

We have too many of our guys hitting well below their norm because they keep swinging at garbage with this idea they HAVE to make something happen with all the hitting woes.

The right bat could go a long way toward settling in the rest of the lineup to just doing their roles. Stop trying to force it.

You could see 4 to 5 guys go up more than 10 points in their avg with a solid change of team mental approach.

One bat alone doesn't turn them into Texas or Houston, but it could more than carry them into a playoff run.

The real problem with contending is they keep fucking off half the season before they get serious. You can't ever be anything other than a sometime wildcard team playing crap baseball over the first half year after year.

Fix the fucking batting order BEFORE the season starts. Try that.
I have two concerns trading for a bat.

1. It'll cost us prospects when our farm system has really thinned out and it'll likely just be a veteran rental.
2. I don't know what it is, maybe it's just a massive coincidence, but Seattle really does seem like where hitters go to die.

It's hard to think of many hitters other than Cruz and Cano who didn't regress when coming to Seattle.

We've put ourselves in a really shitty position by being cheap in free agency. Someone needs to tell Dipoto that trades aren't the only way to add to the team.

I haven't started looking into it, but who realistically would be available?

Not even sure if it will matter unless the rest of the lineup starts hitting like they're capable of.

So it's like you guys have a WS caliber pitching staff paired with the Oakland A's batting lineup. Never have I seen such an imbalanced team in my life.
Not being snarky, but just sayin'.
You're completely right. It's incredibly frustrating.

Props to you guys though, ya'll look like a damn good ball club. Perhaps Dipoto could take a lesson from the Rangers that free agency is a way of building a team.

Kind of unrelated, but when Corey signed with the Rangers, I was hoping that Kyle would come out of retirement and play for the Rangers. He always hit well in Texas and I feel like the elimination of the shift would've helped him a ton.

this team is dogshit. they will get annihilated by good teams the rest of the year because jerry thought a fluke like last year would just keep going on. nope. you actually have to act like a real GM to help a team make the post season consistently. this fucker is a turd.

stuck with fubo to watch games for another month, but that'll be it for this season.

next season will be triple the number of 2022 cal raleigh fucky fuck trinket nights, lol.

Texas was kind of in the same boat as you guys as far as not spending in free agency until they hired Chris Young as GM, then the whole team philosophy changed. It's been SUCH a breath of fresh air. If there's one area that hasn't improved, it's been the inability to develop minor league pitching, which is why we had to basically buy a whole new starting pitching rotation, but hey it's worked.
I think you guys probably need fresh blood in the front office, too.

That would have been awesome! Corey tried to recruit his brother, but he told him he's enjoying retirement.

Sadly I believe that nothing short of an absolute collapse would lead to us moving on from Dipoto.

Technically he's not the GM anymore, but we all know he's the one who calls the shots.

I do have the belief the issue is with ownership. I'm no Dipoto lover at all, but I do believe they've really constrained him with spending. I don't think the lack of spending is due to Dipoto being frugal, but the ownership putting constraints on what he's able to do. If I had to guess, they're already accounting for extensions to their key players and don't want to add anymore payroll so they can retain those guys.

With the type of mentality I believe our ownership has, we are going to be a perpetual .500 team that'll be good enough to get fans into the stadium, but not good enough to be a realistic contender.

I don't blame him.

Mariners ownership also shafted him. I can't remember the exact specifics, but the Mariners never even discussed extending him after his deal expired. Kind of shitty thing to do to a guy who played for us for a decade.

Good free agent hitters don't want to come here unless they're highly overpaid. Not that I think this dipshit ownership group would ever fork out that kind of payroll, but Dipoto would get owned even if they did.

You mean this wasn't Cano's first option? :dhd:

I guess if we were going to trade for a bat maybe a guy that led the A.L in hitting last year would have been a nice get for us this past offseason. I still hate using trades as out number one option to obtain bats. Add to the fact we suck on trading for them doesn't help.
