Camp and preseason is not real. Veterans do not take it the same as actual shots fired. Preseason isn’t truly scheming.

I agree JB is a true vet. Like I said, I would put him at about the 25th best starter in the league…that makes him a very good backup.

The problem is RR‘s aversion to young QBs. Now that he is basically interviewing for a new owner, I expect he will want the veteran to start, and I do not think that is in the best interest of the team.

Nor is the team’s overall record a very good reflection of qb play. They’re not always correlated.

Raiders seem to be in the same situation, I'd be surprised if Jimmy G and Josh McDaniels even make it through the season together.

Rivera has never been a good judge of qbs outside Newton. It is not his strength. In 12 years, he has acquired and developed 1 qb only.

His strength is player relationships and getting players to perform to the best of their abilities....mostly on defense.

His strategy has been

Year 1: Give haskins a shot, then Allen, then TH
Year 2: Sign an over the hill Fitzpatrick, then go to TH
Year 3: Bring in Wentz to save the offense, then go to TH
Year 4: Roll with Howell and Brissett..may the best man win.

I am shocked he did not resign TH as TH has literally finished his first 3 seasons as his #1 starter at qb.

TH thinking had to have some level of, damn it I finished three seasons as the starter despite them trying to find someone better. Atlanta offered more, might as well be a well paid backup who might get to start again, rather than take half the money and likely end up riding out the season if the guy they bought in to replace me stumbles... .again.

It’s not often the Washington Commanders do something everyone agrees is a good move. Some even believed that Washington shouldn’t have given defensive tackle Daron Payne a new contract with $60 million guaranteed earlier this week because the team had already re-signed Jonathan Allen.

On Wednesday, the Commanders agreed to terms with quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a one-year contract. The deal gives Washington a veteran quarterback who can push Sam Howell yet take over and win games if Howell proves he isn’t ready in 2023.

I'd be one of those that thinks paying Payne what they did was a mistake though I liked that they signed JB. That imo was a very prudent move.

They are probably correct, J. Brisset has much more experience than Howell and Howell will have to beat out the veteran in camp. The job is not Howell's to lose but Howell's to win.

This is the incorrect way to qualify for the job. Howell must win the job not lose it. The standards are different for someone who has the job and loses it, in that this way assumes that he's already earned the job. Winning it on the other hand makes the point that he's actually beaten out the competition and NOW has earned it.
