He better worry about his future with us. He's not Dipoto's problem anymore.
The AL MOY has to be either Servais or the Orioles skipper. His job is pretty safe whether we like it or not.

Think about it. Servais and Piniella are the only 2 managers to ever take this team to the playoffs in its history.

They should do themselves a favor and just blow it all up IMO.

Honestly I'm surprised they even have the revenue to justify spending like they do. I know LA is a big market but you're competing with the Dodgers, Rams, Chargers, Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Ducks for views/ticket sales. Also Anaheim is a pain in the ass to get to if you live in any of the decent areas of LA.
They have a shit load of television revenue money. Outside of the Yankees, the Angels were the first to get a big money deal..hence the LA Angels. Planting the flag in Anaheim gives them some 2 million sports fans who don’t have one team. They got the money the Dodgers do but no team in baseball has 2 players who are in the conversation for GOAT and just another bad contract that they are paying plus 100 million to. So for the 23 guys they have pay enough play to stay under the luxury tax are shit. Ohtani will be a Mariner come 2024. He was so young and thought big city big money. JROd plays good for 3 months and gets a monster contract. It is what all foreign players want.

Though I will say the MLBPA were retarded for fighting against the salary cap. If the league is going to continue, they have to cave on the salary cap but unlike the NFL and NBA the cap has to be directly linked to every profit avenue not just owners revenues. About the only thing the NBA has done is getting a fact payday for the league selling it’s soul to the CCP.

I love what they are doing. It helps us...lol. Two great predictions. Haniger is a SoCal boy I believe and I thought the same about Ohtani being dealt. I wish we had enough to get him. He would be amazing on our roster.
The Mariners have more than enough to pay Ohtani. Outside of the SF area, Seattle has the most wealthy Japanese community to take money for. Only question is what would the Angels want to give up on. Only untradable prospects is essentially Ford. On the big club they Castillo, Ray, Gilbert, Kirby, Raleigh, France, Suarez and Julio. Everyone else is available when it comes to Ohtani.

Or trade for Ohtani and Rendon in a deal making us not give up as much because we would be taking on a shit load of money. Rendon can play 2B

After his run last year, it has to be Servais this year. The O's guy can take the seat Scott did last year, though I still think we deserved it over Cash last season.

Anyone want to make another AV bet? ; )

I can always count on you to bring up a good point, sir. Good post.

Could you really see Ohtani in Seattle come 2024? Honestly I have a bad feeling the organization is going to be very cheap going forward after the Ray, Castillo and Julio contracts. For better or worse I can see them mostly focusing on saving money for extensions for guys such as France, Gilbert and Kirby when the time comes.

Also who would Ohtani replace in the rotation? I know a lot can change but I'm pretty sure Marco is still under contract through then, we also have Ray, Castillo, Kirby and Gilbert. Not to mention the fact that Emerson Hancock is getting close to the majors and the Mariners seem to develop pitchers pretty well so I'm not sure it would make sense to invest another $200-$300m on another pitcher when our lineup is so porous. But then again, Ohtani is a once in a generation type talent...

A good problem to have. Baseball always works itself out. Of course if traded he will be a Dodger.

The Seattle Mariners reinstated star rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez from the 10-day injured list Monday and also reinstated catcher Curt Casali from the paternity list.

In corresponding moves, the club optioned catcher Brian O'Keefe and infielder Abraham Toro to Triple-A Tacoma.

Well, Kirby doesn't want this one...

Twice now, he fails to get that third out without allowing a score of some kind.

Yep, Kirby has QUIT.

We're gonna look like idiots in the Wild Card round, aren't we?

I can 100% see Ohtani coming to Seattle if the Mariners give an equivalent offer. I don’t think the Yankees or Dodgers will be able to make him an offer Seattle can and would Ohtani make the same mistake twice of going to the lesser city in market (Mets). He wouldn’t be replacing anyone in the rotation. He is essentially the perfect player if you marry analytic nerds with old school baseball people. You get your 6 man rotation and DH.

I see why you would say they won’t spend. But in a way they kind of have to now don’t they. Not necessarily a top 5 payroll but it seems hard to justify paying Julio’s contract if they won’t spend money. To me, the Julio deal was a huge recruiting tool and then you add Castillo on top of that. Especially if players are willing to sign to the deals Julio and Castillo have, which IMO are very, very team friendly but also massively player friendly if they do what they are projected too.

I don't think the M's could take 2 out of 3 against Toronto even if they were playing decent. They just can't score enough

That's because the pitchers still can suck the life out of them by giving in early.

Yes, glad we ended the drought, but at what cost?

Hopefully it leads to a payroll increase and serious push to filling in holes and depth for a deeper run next year. With this monkey off their backs they don't have to hear about that anymore. Should be able to focus on something bigger.

Toro looks like crap. Buh-bye.

Going into the season I wanted the Mariners to play Toro enough to see if he had what it takes to be an MLB player. I feel like he had more than a fair shake this year. Guy should not be in the Mariners organization next year.
