Dont get me wrong I luv me some TO but I think his success was due to

his organizational skills. Option football is fun but not brain surgery. Cally could confuse the opponents D, T O simply dared them to stop us.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have sand in my vagina and I am not being a negative nancy.
I also feel I am realistic. The road we took is a road that has not been completed. It will take time because the road is being paved as we go and we don't know how effective the pavers are.

I am not being negative but we hired an unexperienced head coach. Pelini is a proven great defensive coordinator but has no history as a head coach. How many great coordinators never make it as a head coach. He is unproven. That means none of us know what kind of head coach he will become.

Our coordinators are unexperienced and we are in the same position with them.

And not being negative but this is the road we took. It is a road that a few years down may be a great freeway or it may need to be taken down to the bed and started over.

I have watched and seen teams around us bring in experience and almost immediately see a difference. Yes it makes me question why we didn't but Pelini was the favored choice and mine as well. But think about:
Michigan - Hoke and a great DC Greg Mattison, 2010 7 - 6, 2011 11 - 2.

Alabama - Nick Saban 2007 7-6, 2008 12 - 2, 2009 14 - 0

I can't think of others off hand right now but it only makes sense. If you hire proven experience the ramp up will be quicker than unproven inexperience.

Now I also remember the fiasco of a coaching search after Solich was fired and the same here in TN after Fulmer. I understand that letting Pelini go would likely make matters a lot worse. We are in the position that our best option is to see this through but realistically we will not be in the mix for at least 2 more seasons, likely more.

Also regarding Stoops as DC. I believe Pelini will drive the defense regardless of who is DC. He also spent a year at OK as "CO-Coordinator" which did not work out to well.

I don't think he would hire a proven name as Stoops because he would either have to give Stoops the reigns or buck heads with him.

I don't think money was the reason Stoops is not here. It is just not a marriage that would work.

This ^^^ Totally different "D" thought process... both with the same goal but roads to get there would be different.

You are no idiot Lou... BC was a solid "O" coach ... and that was all.. HC is not a position he excels at... at any level...

But he could have been our "O" coordinator during the season and sold used cars in the off season... :croc:

(not sold that he was better than TO, but I was on "D" side of ball... so what do I know)

Option is pretty basic but you must have a smart quarterback with field vision

I could see where it would be fruitful if he were to build the defense with Papuchis under him knowing he would take over in a few years. That way the few years he would be here would be building blocks for the future.

Option football is not an easy "O" to run... especially the way T.O ran it. He had a massive number of sets he could run at a "D" with 3-4 options off each set. Much of it has to do with reads and much of it was precision/timing.

Very difficult to defend what T.O developed over his tenure... and since we just plugged in new guys to the same system year in and year out... we were able to expand more plays every season.

this is the truth TO had a lot to take over in the 70's

and it took him a few years to develope the triple option in the early 90's

Ah see , I did make meself look like a dum head.

I should esplain my thoughts. Option offense is not rain surgery compared to

the Callahan playook.( very extensive I was told and if I rememer correctly he downsized it by nearly half to cater to his Juco transfers.)

Also as far as TO is concerned I believe he was one of if not the est HC

in college football, wise men surround themselves with great minds and Tom did that. His coordinators may not have the acclaim that Hayden Frys do but they dont have to make excuses for themselves , they were great.

We're not gonna do anything too special in the foreseeable future so it's not really patience, it's just knowing we are very average and that's not changing.

........

I keep remembering his comments about money not buying wins or some shit like that, now Mike Stoops is at fucking Oklahoma.......

.........

We have not had a season with LESS than FOUR losses since TWO FUCKING THOUSAND FUCKING THREE..............

If it ain't working, CHANGE IT.......

If it wasn't for Osborne threatening to not retire when Bill Byrne wanted to hire outside the program back in 1997, we may have Bob Stoops now as our football coach! Our team would not have missed a beat with Bob Stoops here! We've had two turds here since. Solich, despite his shortcomings was still better than what we have now, but Stoops is a couple of levels better than him.

It's allot easier to recruit texas kids into OU than getting the same guys up to the NE. We all know about the difficulties getting recruits into NU from the hot beds in FL TX CA. Coaching is of course only part of the equation, comparing a coach at any other school to NU will never be a solvable argument just based solely on our recruiting disadvantages.

Not getting our shit pushed in on national tv every time we play a big game would help tremendously in that area.
