Some conditions do get drastically better in a different environment.

So, yes. Some legit mental health issues could seemingly disappear in a new environment. At least for awhile.
Everyone knows it’s a total sham so you are taking hypothetically obviously.

No way.

Because the toxic work environment is causing stress that exacerbates his symptoms.

A new environment could absolutely allow Ben to play pretty soon after even if the issues are 100% legit.

He won’t be getting suspended by the league.

I agree that he isn't likely to get suspended by the league.

But the "toxic work environment" stuff was entirely of his own doing though.

It is on both him and the 6ers.

They have had a bad culture for years. Also, not the first #1 overall pick they have developed to have some type of mental issue.

It is on the fans too.

He is a fragile person. And he knows his home fans absolutely hate him.

And you think he can show his face and play in Philly again?

No chance.

Fresh start, fresh city, totally different dynamic without all the triggers that are present in Philly.

You can’t possibly KNOW that is my point.

You assume that you know what is going on in someone’s head which is the exact reason why so many people struggle getting the help they need for mental issues.

You don’t KNOW a damn thing about Simmons’ mental health.

Pretty much every rational human being would bet everything they got as to what is going on here. The biggest shame is that he was given the big contract on the first place. If the league believed any of it they would have already told the sixers what to do. That’s a guarantee.

Unfortunately the problem this that so many think it is rational to know what is going on in another persons head.

You don’t know. And you likely never will unless he admits to it years down the road.

Suspect all you want.

I don’t KNOW that he isn’t faking. In fact if I had to bet I would take the faking side.

But the irrational position is assuming that you know. Only Ben Simmons and perhaps a few people closest to him really do know.

If he really had a problem you don’t think countless players would be speaking up? Come on, they would be boycotting games.

Markelle Fultz broke himself before he played a single game for the Sixers. And the Philly fans supported him throughout all of it.

The Philly fans hate Simmons now because of what he has done since the Hawks series. He's been on the team for 5 years and has done almost nothing to improve on the 2 parts of his game he most definitely needs to improve. And even still, the fans would have embraced him had he just got in front of the microphone and said "I failed to execute and I am going to dedicate this offseason to getting better" and all would be forgiven. Instead he had a tantrum and demanded to be traded and took zero accountability.

They have been around him for years. I’m not just talking about the team, I’m saying the whole damn league would be up in arms if he really had a problem.

They wouldn’t necessarily know.

Especially since these kind of issues have a bit of a stigma and a young professional athlete would likely try to hide them from teammates, coaches, etc.

Enough woukd know he was capable of it. I really can’t believe you are standing up for this, but we all have our opinions.

I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

But honestly, some of the opinions here are just flat out uneducated.

First off, there are more than 200 types of classified mental health issues. Second, experts estimate that about 13% of Americans deal with some form of mental illness in a given year.

In other words, statically speaking, everyone who posts here knows multiple people who have gone through mental health issues in the past year. And while there may be warning signs present, there is no way to know for sure what a friend, colleague or family member might be dealing with in their own head unless they tell you.

Just a couple warning signs:

Confused thinking
Excessive fears or anxieties
Social withdrawal
Strong feelings of anger
Delusions
Inability to cope with problems

Just to name a few. You telling me that Ben Simmons has not displayed any of these symptoms in the past few months?

Look, he very well might be faking. And if he is, he is a horrible person.

But you all pretending to KNOW that he is faking is even more terrible IMO.

I hope to god that if someone in your life tried to open up about something they were going through you wouldn’t treat them the way you are talking about Ben Simmons.

Because you don’t know. And assuming that you do is dangerous.

Sorry but he faked a back injury and then he faked Corona virus before this. Not many are being duped, but it would seem a very few are.

Again. Uneducated opinion from you.

That type of behavior is a warning sign of mental illness!

I am not ruling out the possibility he is faking.

More than 1/8 Americans have suffered from mental illness in the past year. Assuming that highly erratic Ben Simmons couldn’t be 1 of those is just plain stupid.

I get that the optics look terrible.

But you don’t know!

I have yet to find one article sticking up for this guy, none. You are on an island.

Of all the crazy takes, this one is my favorite. Philly fans give the guy standing ovations of support in home playoff games as he struggles to go 36% there. He practices scorched earth this summer trying to get out of Philly. A town where sports is huge turns on a player they’ve supported for 5 years when he tells the world he wants out and Philly fans created a “toxic work environment”? I’m sorry but that shit is both crazy and hilarious. It sounds like your defense of Simmons leans on the reality that he can’t handle being a max contract player in a city that actually has some give a fuck and cares about sports. Maybe Simmons needs to go rot in New Orleans, Charlotte, or OKC where no one actually gives a fuck.

All I am doing is remaining open to the possibility that he isn’t a complete piece of crap. I am not taking his side.

So if I am on an island, it is a shame.

Here is a 5 year old scouting report on Simmons. Someone better be paying this guy a lot of money, he nailed it.
