I mean as much as I wouldn't like him if I was a Sixers fan...you are losing value. Sure, the Sixers will still be a damn good team but you are losing the value of what he brings to a trade and wasting Embiid's prime. They aren't going to beat the Bucks in a series. Waiting an entire year to move him when you plan on moving him anyway is just kinda dumb. Trade value isn't going to climb out of nowhere they are just prolonging the inevitable.

Sadly, I agree. They are probably getting nothing now. The only way they can ever get anything is if Simmons comes back, rehabilitates his reputation by playing well and being a good teammate.

Now, we all know that he is incapable of this. Every day he lowers his value further. So I would just let him rot. Make him practice, and go to games and sit on the bench and watch.

The only actual argument to be made for moving him at this time is a financial one, to get his contract off the books. That is indeed a problem from a cap perspective. But if they can fine him and make sure he doesn't actually earn that money, well, at least you have that satisfaction.
