One point I heard today is maybe they are taking that stance with the idea that they want people to buy gear this year. :noidea: I can't imagine Dan being that smart but maybe Wright is.

I don't know man, this is all starting to sound like "upper management speak" to me. No where, and I repeat NO WHERE, have i heard or read about the name WFT being a logical choice. No long time fan would approve and the "NEW" fan many speak of should be considered in slight. If you really did ask the alumni, different countries and the new fan base, then you didn't target/poll your incumbent faithful and likely largest fan base which is us. The fan who is still faithful from the 70's until now. Those fans matter and I didn't see any speak of them. If Jason Wright truly (listened) understood the "deep beliefs" held by this fan base, it wouldn't take this long to come up with a new name. The whole search for a new name has become a way to divert attention from Danny boy and his issues he currently is working through. 2022 before a new name is given? Ridiculous as a complete season was played with zero progress. Smells of the same ol same ol around Ashburn only different hands in the pot. No loyal longtime REDSKIN fan is buying any crappy apparel with WFT on it. As many have mentioned here, I have seen no one with WFT apparel and no one who even likes the current name/moniker. Its just plain shittty!!!

"The pressure is felt from the fan base to us," Wright said. "Dan feels it. I feel it. Our entire team feels it. This fan base deserves something that is thoughtful, that has taken their input into consideration very deeply."

Washington will use focus groups as well. Wright also listens to local sports talk radio and podcasts to gain as much insight as possible into what others are thinking. He actively engages on social media, especially Twitter.

"How can I steward a rebrand if I don't understand deeply held beliefs?" Wright said.

Disagree.

Seems to me that Jason Wright is doing his due diligence.

It takes a long time to change the name and all the tie ins for a pro sports franchise. All of the liscensing contracts - all of them - need to be revisited, because a company lent support to one name and may not like the new one. “Pepsi” had a contract with “The Washington Redskins,” not “The Washington Football Team,” etc.
Merchandizing, liscensing, contract renewals - all things lawyerly - take an inordinate amount of time.

If anybody should know anything about that, The Danny should, considering his current legal situation.

Of course he is, he has too in order to appease the fan base. In the end, all that matters is internally. The team will be called whatever if they decide internally and will not be left to the fans. Saying you let the people vote, showing the results for voting for a new name etc mean absolutely nothing as we have all learned recently in this country. The people have no say! The name will eventually be whatever drives business in so many facets as you mention chiller.

I would love Warriors, but I actually don't mind WFT. WFT is just giving the media their pound of flesh. It's so generic that most fans will still say Skins.

In my house, and with my loved ones we still say, "What time do the Skins come on, or who do the Redskins play next week?" The generic name allows long time Skins fans to still use the name, while getting the Max Kellerman's off our back.

The uniforms are exactly the same, which I love. I don't mind the numbers on the helmet, but I do hope they bring back the gold and white stripes down the middle of the helmet.

If they go red, white, and blue........thats gonna sting.

If I see a Redwolves t-shirt on a rack, that's gonna sting.

WFT is fine. I'll never use it, but if it calls off the dogs, so be it.

I hate WFT, but kinda like FC Washington. It’d be unique, it’d sell lots of jerseys, it’d be global (soccer is still world’s most popular sport), and therefor there’s a precedent for a similar type name.

keep the burgundy and gold, see what kinda crest/shield washington can come up with (silhouette of DC landmarks?) call it a day.

I like / like(d) RedTails, but that’s waning. Warriors is ok I guess, especially with the spear and feathers helmet, but we all know they’re not going to use that.

i will say that clicking through some of those submissions - there are some damn talented graphic designers out there!

Also:

I like the whole vibe of the “Rising.”

Classic “R” logo, keep “HTTR” not offensive.

doesnt roll off the tongue though - Washington Rising, or DC Rising.

I like your reasoning but still don't like the name.

Red Wolves or Red Tails does not for me. I might rather be the WFT than those names. I'd like to see a name that is in some way connected to the past.

I refer to the team just as I do on here. Who are the WTF playing? What time are the WTF playing? Because they don't know who the fuck they are .... much like Snyder.
