Day to Day
The NFL has not officially set the Cap for 2021, but the two most agreed upon numbers are $180M and $175M. Of course, the league will not let the number out until March 15. Teams are canvasing the NFL to keep the cap as high as possible. The general concensus is that it will be set at $180M.
Given that number, the Patriots will have $62.8M to spend in free agency.
All of the lists of available players is based upon contracts that have expired and those players will officially be available on March 17. What is unknon right now is who will be cut to allow their teams to get to the official cap number. Because that is unknown, free agents are concerned that their market value will drop like a rock. That being said, what does that say about young players who played every snap but don't have name recognition and will be fighting against older known names and and new 2021 draftees.
The available veteran free agents lists in Sportrac shows who is going to be available, how many snaps they played and how much they were making in 2020.
Here's a list of some guys that played every snap on defense that earned less than $1M in 2020 and just might be perfect for BB to pick up on the cheap:
DT:
Akeem Nunez-Roches TB 28
Dalvin Tomlinson NYG 27
DJ Jones SF 26
DE
Tanoh Kpassdanon KC 27
Trey Hendrickson NO 27
Headi Odenigbo MIN 27
Al Quadin-Muhammad IND 26
ILB
Reggie Ragland DET 28
Jayon Brown TEN 26
Anthony Walker IND 26
Harvey Langi NYJ 29
The above players made it through the season, playing nearly every snap and playing all 16+ games. Healthy, young and inexpensive in a year where there will only be five or six teams looking outside their own roster. The reason I say that is because TB has $31,5M in cap space and Bruce Arians says he will have evrybody back in 2021. He thinks he can sign all 25 of the TB free agents with $24.5M? And commit another $7M to the draft? Have another Bud Light Bruce.
