To make excuses for that is beyond irrational.

wow. Guess you coming to defense cannot be a surprise. Still need turnup to defend him for the triumvirate. It's what everyone does now. Reading an entire interview is long and exhausting. Media in all verticals, especially sports likes to pick out singular quotes for clicks.
I spent 5 years as a reporter......Thing is, @bksballer89 isn’t wrong.
You guys ever done an interview with media before? I have done a few. It isn’t easy.
In my case, since I am nobody, the reporter only used quotes that made sense and made me look good. In the case of a public figure it is often exactly the opposite.
Take 1 word out of that quote and the entire meaning changes. It was a word he shouldn’t have said, and I am sure he would take it back it’d he could have.
But you all are way overanalyzing a small piece of the man’s quote.
Yep.He also said There will always be that asterisk. That caveat.
Just admit he should have stopped short of that comment and move on.
It's the exact quote that IS the issue. It's not one small piece. He said there would be an asterisk, a caveat. should have just left it at better team won.Thing is, @bksballer89 isn’t wrong.

and added the asterisk/caveat.How? He said the Lakers won fair and square (which they did)
If he would admit he should not have said it then how is too much being made when all that many are saying is it was sour grapes to say it?Exactly.
1 line, really 1 word he shouldn’t have said.
I am sure he would even tell you that.
And while that is absolutely on him, you all are still over analyzing and making too much out of it.
they are...but this was not like most retirements. did come back the next year.

Should there be an asterisk/caveat they didn't have to deal with his opponent having home court? Is there an asterisk/caveat because Indiana was without Sabonis for the entire series and Oladipo was banged up?
Exactly.

I don't think this is overanalyzed at all.
He used the wrong words and he was making an excuse. He probably knows he is wrong for what he said but he still said it. I'm not sure why some people are defending him like he didn't say it because he absolutely did.
That's the end of it.
you did...then go on to make excuses for him. Pretty clearly, in fact.I said he shouldn’t have said that. Pretty clearly in fact.
1 semester for OSU student newspaper. Not by choice, though.I spent 5 years as a reporter......

There is this thing called cause and effect. Without the cause, there is no effect. In this case Riley's comment is the cause. Don't say it and there is no "clickbait"/effect.Because I think it is really stupid when media does this. They create clickbait by focusing on whatever piece of a quote will create a reaction. Whether or not it captures the overall message they don’t care.
In this case the stakes are low. They are only talking about sports.
When they do this shit with more polarizing issues though?
That is one of the main reasons our country is so divided right now.
So call it what you want. This general practice of gotcha journalism makes me sick to my stomach.
