Microsoft buys Bethesda

Pretty significant gaming news here with MS buying Bethesda. That studio makes Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout and many more. Right now they are claiming big titles will still come to all consoles "on a case to case" basis but you gotta think some titles could shift to being Xbox exclusive, or at the very least, get released for Xbox first and/or have more features.

Microsoft Buys Bethesda Parent Zenimax Media For $7.5 Billion

Pending the closure of a $7.5 billion cash sale, Microsoft has purchased Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios.

Microsoft is doing all of the right things except showing us good games. I'm probably going Xbox after swearing off the brand back in the Red Ring of Death days. I'm not a huge Skyrim or Fallout fan but Arkane and Id are a big deal to me. PS Collection also doesn't really mean much to me, atm, because I already own most of those games and Gamepass looks like a better product.

As a PC gamer nothing will change. Bethesda will still make the pc version a terrible console port, and the modding community will make it playable in a few months.

They have a year and a half before they are fully integrated into Microsaft, and Ghostwire is still a PS exclusive.

The impact from this wont be felt for at least 2 years, and my guess is even then most games will get the outerworlds treatment and still go to PC.

On a more positive note, Obsidian will be under same umbrella now, so Bethesda can learn how to make a good game again.

Of course, I just view it from a PC stand point because that is my preferred platform.

Even if Sony buys a few game studios of their own, their biggest appeal has been they are the RPG system, but they can't make that claim anymore. They 2 years to counter punch.

XBOX's OS is built on Windows 10, the porting will only start to get better when nVIDIA gets into consoles, as it stands AMD has a lock on XB & PS. Diversifying the consoles in hardware is the only way to improve the efforts made by developers, and thats not the profitable way. I doubt nVIDIA will get involved, as they are focused on AI, deep learning, and supercomputing...

I think Sony still has it's niche. Cinematic games with memorable characters.

Microsoft exclusive lineup now has a lot of synergy, though. Ninja Theory makes Sony style games. They still have Gears and Forza. Ori is a Nintendo style game. Id Software, Minecraft, Arkane, Bethesda and old Bethesda gives them a deep portfolio.

What hurts for Sony, too, is that the next Horizon and Spider-Man aren't designed purely for next gen. Best I can tell the first game that might actually look next gen is Ratchet and Clank. That gives Microsoft some time to get on it's feet with it's superior gamepass.

Man 7.5 Billion that is a huge chunk of money to put it in perspective the New York Yankees franchise worth is estimated at 5 Billion and the Dallas Cowboys estimated at 5.5 Billion. Seems like they were saving this move just in time for the PS5 to release so all these new upcoming mega titles will be there I wouldn't be surprised at all if they made all that money back plus more by the time the PS6 comes out. I read somewhere that they will also start working on a Fallout New Vegas sequel.

Either way I would imagine that they will retain a lot of their staff I doubt they would do this move to completely scrap all the people that made the previous titles a success so I doubt the quality of games will diminish.

I don't know about that Fallout 3 was pretty great and New Vegas wouldn't came if Fallout 3 wasn't such a great game and success.
