Part of the problem should be obvious; every school president voted to shut it down except Iowa and Nebraska. So OSU's president clearly is against playing this Fall and I doubt the football program can do anything without the President's signature.
Right now he has cover but if the SEC, Big 12 and ACC all play then the boosters are going to get involved and it is going to get ugly for the president. If Nebraska works a deal and plays in the Big 12 this year the fans of the other B1G teams are going to lose their shit.

We won't know unless the other conference kick-off but if they do the shit will start flying quickly.

You really don't want any college football to be played.

If the ACC, Big 12 and SEC decide to play this fall then I would expect only a minority of players to opt-out at the beginning. If there starts to be COVID breakouts all over the place then that will change and the leagues will probably shut everything down anyway, but as long as people keep testing negative the season will go on.

If they switch the season to spring then all bets are off and I would imagine the following:

1. Top players will opt-out
2. Players that are struggling with their grades will drop out completely
3. Incidents of the players getting in trouble are going to skyrocket
4. Some programs won't make it to spring and will fold (not P5 programs though)

As for the season being neutered? If three of the five P5 conferences play and it is mostly conference games we will probably have one of the better seasons on record because there won't be many shitty games. Let's face it no one from the PAC was going to get into the playoff anyway and Ohio State was probably going to lose first round as well. I don't think of the season as being neutered, I think of it as being simplified. I'll miss the bowl games but I can live with what I do get.

If we do play and your team is sitting at home...well that is one big turd sandwich for you to swallow.
I'm not sure how this will all work out but i find it highly entertaining that rustbelt fans are already saying it doesn't matter because the best players will be opting out.. but if the B16 had went on.. Fields would have played? LOL

And now they are saying this is all for show.. Can't wait for the first weekend of games to get here.. it may go to shit after that, but atleast we get a full game

It'll be interesting to see if any of the PAC schools will try to go the Nebraska route.

All I've heard out of USC is that the coaches and players want to play and they are not happy with the PAC's decision.

Haven't heard anything out of the President or AD though and haven't heard if the PAC vote was unanimous.

I've put some thought into this and honestly, it's a tough scheduling job to add additional games to say the current SEC schedule. The maximum teams can play is 12 games from a realistic point and there are 14 teams so that is 28 games that could potentially be filled and that is tough math to make work.

Now the Big 12 has 10 teams so they could potentially add 2 teams and play 12 games each and that could work.

The real question is would conferences want to play more than 10 games. I can see the Big 12 adding Nebraska because of the history but I don't think you are going to see anyone going out of their way to add other teams.

The schedule will remain the same, if everything is still good come November, then the CFP rankings will come out. Screw Nebraska, when they left the Big 12 they said they were tired of getting bullied by the Texas of the world (Tom Osborne words).. well now they are getting bullied by the NW and Rutgers in the world behind the scenes. Just saw Rick Neuheisel interviewed on Dan Patrick and he made some really good points and brought up re: the B1G and PAC a couple of interesting questions about the shutdown.

He said that the PAC didn't want to be the first conference to shut down because it would have been devastating to their brand.

He said that we want and deserve to know what changed over the last 5 or so days.

He says that obviously not everyone in the B1G is onboard. Nebraska and Iowa voting against the shutdown and Nebraska looking at other options for their season is potentially problematic for the B1G.

He said "How do you go from saying it looks like we can do this and even going as far as to release schedules with built in flexibility and then 5 days later, you're canceling the season? What changed?"

He also said if it's because they got new medical information, then they need to share that info with the other conferences.

I just doubt it's going to be feasible for Nebraska. I'm sure there are contracts within the B10 that prevent that kind of thing from happening without some form of repercussion.

OSU apparently wanted to push it back to later in the fall (would have just been cancelled anyway).
Not sure how that would even work unless it were a very shortened season (6 games?).

The B1G has botched this terribly and the disorganization and leaks have been a huge embarrassment.

The Rock needs to buy an island, build a field, and invite a few hundred juniors and seniors to play some football. Completely bubbled.

I assume she wanted to push it back closer to the SEC start
I think moving it up is the only thing that could have worked. By delaying it, you're losing valuable time for makeup games to happen. Pushing college games into December might work but it gets iffy; especially if a post season is involved in any capacity.

In theory the B1G is in breach of those contracts and by default Nebraska has every right to pursue alternatives. Now the B1G can pay Nebraska to not play but they won’t and that gives the Huskers the freedom to pursue what they want. If the B1G were playing any type of season it would be different but Nebraska didn’t sign over their right to play.

Yeah, even if USC were to "go rogue" and start looking at other options, I doubt they could actually put together a schedule that made any sense.

I will say though, if the PAC Presidents wants to get rid of Larry Scott as bad as we fans do (unfortunately, I don't think they do), this could be the perfect time to do it. I think that, if for example, USC decided to start "exploring other options" and got say...UCLA and Oregon or Washington or someone to join them in that...it would put Scott on some shaky ground.

I wish PAC fans were as dedicated as SEC fans. If Sankey pulled the plug as early as the PAC has, SEC fans would be storming the SEC league offices.

Probably not with a Presidential vote

Your fans are more concerned about defunding police departments than actually playing football.

Are you talking about the president of Nebraska? If everyone else wanted to play and he vetoed that move then Nebraska would be finding another president in short order.

If you are saying the other B1G presidents have the power to tell Nebraska what to do then LOL to that.

Yep.

I don't know if it happened and they just couldn't reach an agreement, but their needed to be some conference calls between school presidents, AD's and conference commissioners of the P5 conferences to come up with a unified plan.

Would have been a way to start the process of separating the themselves from the rest of the NCAA.

Hoping this ends conferences anyway but if the SEC, Big 12 and ACC do indeed have the season maybe this could form 3 big kind of super conferences...which I love the idea of anyway. It was only a matter of time before P5 goes away, this just speeds up that process.
