Ah Burkie shooting from the lip...

“It was typical Gary Bettman. It’s like a Chicago election in the 1930s. Not that it’s fixed, but you have a pretty good sense what’s going to happen beforehand.”

Bettman knows how to swing a baseball bat?

Besides Detroit and Chicago, what other "established rivalries" are there? Uhh, none dilholes.

This fuckin blows goats.

It hasn't been much to speak of lately but the Wings and Blues have always had a pretty decent rivalry going back to the days of the Norris Division. The Blues look like they are on their way back up so that rivalry could be somewhat renewed.

I hate the blues. Have hated them since the al macinnis/chris pronger/ grant fuhrer days.

I'm glad they've sucked for so long. I hope they suck forever.

this old playoff scenario comes into play again:

1987: Leafs made playoffs with 52 points, while Rangers missed with 82.

That old format use to kill the Whalers too. I think it was 1990 that they had the 6th best record in the NHL but were the 4th seed in their division, earning them a date with the President's Trophy winning Bruins and a 1st round exit.

With the uneven divisions, I can't help but wonder how long before we start hearing expansion talk, or maybe even contraction. I really dislike uneven divisions personally so if this format sticks I would definitely welcome expansion of 2 teams.

I fucking hate this. Just reaffirms that the NHL brass is made up of bumbling fucktards. God I'm pissed off.

Quote of the day:
"It wasn't a question of being dissatisfied, but we had a number of clubs that were unhappy with the current state of affairs." -Gary Bettman

Oh yeah... TOTALLY different meanings there.

Not sure what I think about this yet. Let me drink a couple more beers and see if that helps me form an opinion.

i would like to see top 3 teams from each conference make it and then the next 4 spots are wildcards. i think it would help reduce the chance that a team with a shitty record gets into the playoffs.

as it is right now, the structure for the playoffs after round 2 is still to be decided

I like the idea on the surface, but if the playoff matchups are to be kept so that there will be a guaranteed east/west final, then if the wildcards are split such that there is an uneven balance of east vs. west teams, then that could create a problem.

I like where you're heading with that one... but then you'll have people crying about a conference (Pacific?) potentially sending 5-6 teams to the playoffs.
