NHL snubbing Western Conference teams - The Denver Post
Yes. Yes it would. There are more people in BOS, NY, PHI, and WSH who watch the NHL than in SJ or LA. I want to watch west coast teams as much as anyone, but no one but you thinks the ratings would compare.

The "NHL on NBC" really ought to be renamed "NHL, So Long as The Game is Played by Eastern Teams in an Eastern Time Zone,

on NBC."
Listen, I understand why Eastern teams get on national TV more. The league's two most marketable players — Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin — play in the East. NBC is based in New York, and so primarily is the NHL's head office, making the travel easier for their gear and on-air "talent." Western time zones translate poorly to weekend sports television viewing, especially for hockey.
But come on, would a San Jose-Los Angeles or L.A.-Anaheim game really draw much poorer ratings than, say, Boston-Rangers or Philly-Washington?
