I know the claim is TW can only yield a fifth round compensatory pick; however, I need some proof. Can anybody show me where this is actually shown.

I ask because this is what I found...

  • Players who have ten or more accrued seasons may only yield a maximum of a 5th round compensatory pick, even if their actual value would otherwise be assigned higher. See Alan Faneca in 2009, who only awarded Pittsburgh with a 5th round pick instead of a 3rd despite his contract, playing time, and postseason honors. However, App. V, §4 revealed that this rule does not apply to quarterbacks.

I believe that (The Faneca Rule) is the answer, and TW has accrued 10 seasons - with last season counting even though he didn't play last season.

In case there are some wondering about what informs us that this rule does not apply to quarterbacks, here is a screenshot of App. V, §4. of the new CBA. (Highlight is mine.)

I didn’t think last season accrued because he never showed up for work.

He showed up just in time for it to accrue and the Bruce put him on the NI list or whatever

An accrued season is a season during which a player has been on a team's roster for six or more regular season games. Players will receive an accrued season while on the team's roster, receiving their full pay while on the active/inactive lists and injured reserve list.

Did Trent accrue last season. I just don’t remember.

Williams is technically still under contract and has a year left on his deal. The Redskins can either trade him for what ever they can get. Hold onto him and NOT spend the cap money he is due, even though he wont get paid if he doesnt show. Or release him and get nothing in return because you dont get comp picks for cut players.

He did not accrue last season because he never actually showed up and was listed as non football no show, which is why he is still techincally under contract this season.

You're welcome

Are you sure? I think he did accrue his season last year. He showed up right before cutoff the the team put him on some sort of not ready status. Last year he was in year 4 of a 5 year deal. This is now his final contract year. If he plays for us this year, he is eligible for FA next year.

I think.

If this was correct he would have 2 years on the contract wouldn’t he ?

I stand corrected, the Redskins did not try to say he did not accrue a season. So he is in the last year of his deal. But I stand by the idea that if they try to trade him someplace he does not want to go, the team trading for him risks getting nothing out of the deal. Which is why I dont think they get beter than a late 5th or lower for him if any thing
