I'm probably the biggest Keenan Allen fan on this planet. Keenan produced in college with crap QBs. Keenan gets himself wide open with sweet routes and then soft hands. Keenan was also a 3rd round pick, not a 1st rounder.

Biggest reason for that was his horrible 40 time at 4.71. Good thing for him his speed on the football field was better than his timed speed. Jefferson was in the low 4.4s which should keep him in the first round.

He hurt his knee his final season (junior year) in college, but killed it his sophomore year.

What does Jefferson do better than Jordan Matthews did in college? That's the part I'm worried about. Keenan is a very hopeful comparison to make, but Jordan Matthews could be a more accurate comparison.

Sure thing. If he had a better forty then that would have eased concerns about his injury. It's really hard to project players to the NFL. Many times prospects are over analyzed. There are draft evaluators that think Jefferson is more of a 2nd round pick. "He's good at a lot of things but not great at anything," is something I've read a lot. To me Justin is just a smooth route runner, reliable, and strong hands. His speed is bonus.

25 more days!! Can we possibly wait that long? We have dissected all the possibilities. Bottom line is, if we gt one of the top 3 prime time players (WR), we'll be fine. I think that's what Howie, and the gang, had in mind with 10 picks. Now with 3 and 5 gone, extra picks, they may be more conservative with the picks. We'll see, and have a lot of dream scenarios until then.
...and as is usually the case, those dream scenarios RARELY come close to coming true.

I think Jefferson is a much better prospect than Jordan Matthews was. Matthews was fine when the ball was put in stride, but he could not contort his body and adjust to throws anywhere near as good as Jefferson can. He also could not play well through contact (a big problem when he reached the NFL) ... Jefferson on the other hand has continuously shown that he can hang on to passes after hard hits. Matthews wasn't a bad player with regards to getting open and he did post solid stats prior to getting traded from the Eagles ... but the qualities that prevented him from becoming a top WR is actually a strength for Jefferson. Other aspects of Jefferson's game which I think are better than Matthews are suddenness and fluidity ... Matthews was good once he got going, but he needed some buildup speed. Jefferson is quicker and sharper in his movement skills ... his change of direction is better than Matthews' was. At least that's what I see after going back and watching college film on the two.

A dream scenario is for us to get one of 3 "Amigos", and still have a 2nd rd pick, and come away with Aiyuk , Mims, Reagor, or Shenault. (I know - still dreaming).

Since we have so much time to speculate, why not do our own Mock Drafts? Any interest?

Johnson's labrum injury should no longer an issue, he even got 15 reps of 225 which is very good even for a Corner who's 100%.

I think the Eagles will try to move up for one of those top 3 WR's, but so will many other teams ... I think the asking price in the end may be too high. I don't see any teams from 11-15 other than Tampa at 14 willing to trade with us because they themselves may want one of those 3 and all 3 may already be gone by that Tampa pick anyhow. The only sure-fire way to land one of those 3 would be Cleveland at 10, but to get up that high you will probably lose both your 2nd and 3rd if not more. Using my Mock for simplicity that would mean you are trading Justin Jefferson, Jaylon Johnson and Devin Duvernay for one of those top 3 receivers. Would it be worth it?

Great write up as usual, Rey really appreciate you taking the time. I like Johnson in the 2nd, he seems to fit the type of corner that Schwartz likes and a lot of the credible evaluators are very high on his ability in the NFL. Love Duvernay too, think he's going to be a nice deep threat in the NFL. However...

Getting to 10 would be expensive, but I'd do it only for Jeudy, if he's still on the board. I really believe he's worth the trade up if the scenario presents itself. Jeudy is going to be a stud, a true #1 who can win against anyone and would be the perfect young receiver to groom with and build rapport with Wentz for the next 7-10 years.

The Eagles passed on Cooper and Hopkins, saying that they were too expensive. There's some truth in that, but if Howie had not already tied up so much money in DJAX/Jeffery already, then Cooper/Hopkins might have happened. So now they need to go the draft route, and we need that #1 guy on the outside we have not had since Terrell Owens. I agree that #10 is the sweet spot. If Cleveland is willing to play, we need to make that move for Jeudy (if he's still there).

I agree with this - Jefferson is really nice but he's more of a slot guy IMO, we need a true outside guy. I thought Jefferson looked as good as he did because of how many weapons LSU had and because he played opposite of Ja'Marr Chase, who is the real stud WR on that team.

I'd do that same for Lamb or Ruggs too.

Lamb maybe, but not for Ruggs. Not because I don't like him, I do - but I think durability is going to be an issue for him at the next level; the last two times I've seen him, he couldn't finish his bowl game because of injury; he couldn't finish the combine because of injury... he's a smaller guy and I don't think he's built to carry volume in the NFL - if he falls to us at 21, great. I take him all day, every day. But I am apprehensive to do an expensive trade up for a guy I feel is going to be a durability issue in the NFL. Just my opinion.

Adam Caplan who's as tuned in to what the Eagles do as much as anyone ... doesn't believe the Eagles are trading up for one of the top 3 unless one of them falls to 18 or beyond (which does not seem likely to happen). He believes the Eagles are much more likely to trade down and try to recoup the pick(s) they lost in acquiring Darius Slay. In a way it makes some sense as after the top 3 you have a group of around 6 receivers that are grouped in the same tier (Jalen Reagor, Brandon Aiyuk, Justin Jefferson, Denzel Mims, Laviska Shenault, Tee Higgins). You can trade down 7 or 8 spots and snag an extra 3rd rounder while still seeing half of the guys listed or more still on the board.

A lot of good talk on Jefferson. I am one who is REALLY over concerned all the time about taking the wrong guy (like our 2nd rounder last year might just likely be). So much so that I don’t even trust myself to mock out a draft.

Jefferson might be just that guy. But I’m still kind of high on him. Sure, he excelled in a system that worked to get guys open instead of expecting them to do it all. So.....just like our system?

A first rounder for a slot receiver....I agree that seems odd. But count me in the “don’t trade up” camp. I’ll be open to trading down to one of those guys in the next tier....or just taking a slot receiver that can really fit.....especially if something else happens in the next month on the trade front to get a guy to man attention on the outside.

Mims imo plays slower than his timed results ... his game actually reminds me of a young Alshon Jeffery. That's not a bad thing, but he plays way more like a possession receiver than a speed threat. If you look at his film you rarely see him dusting anyone, it's a lot of body positioning, contested catches. He does that extremely well, so again, it's not a knock.

Who then? Aiyuk? Duvernay? Ya think Howie baby will trade up that far, and give up all those picks?
