Hey guys, my son is turning 9 in a couple weeks and we're letting him have a few of his friends sleep over for his party. We want to have a bunch of games the kids can play in a group of 4-6, and som of that will be video games.

We have Madden 19, Fifa 19, and NBA 2K18, so those are options. I was trying to do some research and find whatever Sony has that's close to Mario Party or Smash Bros that would be fun for more than 2 players, but I'm not really finding anything. Anyone have any advice?

We do have a PS3 available too so if there's a better option that didn't make it to the latest generation please include that too.

Thanks!

Meh we did minecraft on a few X1s for my daughters 9th birthday sleep over (also did movies on the big screen) minecraft is easy to setup for many people.

Other than that you can get a pc and put an emulator on it and get mario party or kart etc and play that way.

When i was young it was always fun playing the fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Tekkin and Street Fighter etc and then you just have an order where loser passes til someone beats the winner that was always a blast and it goes quick.

Not sure how todays games stack up in that, i remember we had soul caliber on xbox 360 that my wife and i played and she did well for a button smasher :D

If you need it to be on a Sony system, Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled is a lot like Mario Kart. I'd even argue its the best version of Mario Kart. I think its on all of the game systems although the only issue I see is load times on a PS4 without an SSD. Overcooked 1 and 2 are the other games that come up for this niche. Broforce is the other game that fits in this camp although kids might not get the references. There are some other games but they aren't ones I'd recommed to kids. All of these games cap out at 4 players.

Generally speaking, this is Nintendo territory. People have bought Nintendo products since the N64 and Wii and now the Switch to do party games like Smash Bros. All other games like Smash Bros dont sell at all without the Nintendo IP so they dont really make any anymore. None that are big, anyways. Its just Smash Bros.

The best versions of Mario Party are in actual board game form, imo. Board games have come a long way and its not too difficult to find some that are 4-6 players and designed for parties and kids. Reddit has a recommendations tab in their board games area and you'll find someone giving you decent advice there.

Overcooked is fantastic. Just as a warning know that the first one is local while the second has online co-op.

Also, if you get the XBOX Game Pass you can play Fuzion Frenzy which is probably the closest to Mario Party.

Another option which is available for PS4 is The Escapists.
