Yes CeeDee Lamb is gone but Rattler will have those three 5* receivers who will now be sophomores to toss it to plus Rambo and TE Austin Stoegner. OU will always be fine at WR.

Staff observations. They see him everyday...I will admit that I personally can't vouch for shit.

For the season he was actually 7 for 11 for 81 yds and a TD...but what can we glean from mop up time?

I disregarded 4 for 4 for 50 yards against the 3rd string from South Dakota.

I agree wholeheartedly on not being able to glean much from mop up time, but usually you can get a glimpse when they face P5 defenses, as even the backups are P5 D1 football players.

And if we could take what coaches say about their own players — there would be 130 1st team all-American QB’s. You’d think UM has Tom Brady taking over at QB if you listen toHarbaugh talk about McCaffrey.

That was more Riley than Heard. Heard isn’t a great passer, but Riley didn’t ask him to be one either.

He averaged over 11 yards a completion, so it isn’t as if he was throwing dump offs.
He also completed 69% his last year at Alabama and averaged over 10 yards per completion.

So while he may not have a rocket arm — he has shown he knows where to go with the ball and he is accurate.

Well if anyone would know about underachieving, it would be you. Thanks for letting me down softly. Now I can rest without expecting OU to win any games.

Wait, you do go to practices and breakdown game film with the coaches? Bandwagon t-shirt fan.

I'm not trolling. The question was a comparison to Hurts. Rattler to this point has demonstrated a skill set closer to Mayfield/Murray than Hurts. Taking that with LR's ability to craft an offense that features a QBs skill I'd say that Rattler should be a decent QB.

You convinced he has no chance?
Wasn't talking about you homie. The OP. Comparing Rattler to Hurts is one of the dumbest comparisons I've seen. I'm agreeing with you. I think every service had him as the #1 rated pro style QB coming out of high school. He will kill it in Riley's system he actually wants to run IMO.

To be fair to both Hurts and Rattler. Hurts had less than a year under Riley's system and a green O line. Rattler will have had a year in Riley's system with a more seasoned O line but, will be without Lamb.

I do not expect Rattler to be Mayfield/Murray out if the the gate but, I do expect him to have a better understanding of Riley's offense and to be a more versatile in the utilization of the offense.

OU couldn’t win a National Championship with Sam Bradford, Jason White, Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray. Think about that for a minute. Spencer Rattler is playing in a helluva shadow. If he can help us win a New Year’s Six bowl this year I’ll be happy.

Jalen Hurts isn't the reason OU didn't win it all this year. He is THE reason they made the playoffs. Cedee Lamb wasn't running wide open all year anymore than any other OU WR. What made him special was what he did after the catch. He was elite once he had the ball. Like as good as I've seen in awhile.

OU currently has higher rated WR's on their roster than they've had in a long time. If Rattler can be just as good as Hurts was, they will excel on offense again. The real question is does their defense take another step forward?

It's one thing to have issues on defense in conference, when you play the Clemson's, Ohio St's, Alabama's, and LSU's of the world, you better have a well rounded team. Or it wont be pretty. Even though Mayfield almost willed OU past Georgia, they've been exposed in every other playoff game as not being a complete team.

Not knocking them, I wish UT had these problems right now. Along with 95 percent of college football.

I'm not a scout obviously, but that ball seems to pop. He has some kind of release it looks like.

Granted — I think any solid QB can put up big numbers in Oklahoma’s offense. But OU has had some special QB’s the last few years.

I did watch the QB1 and while Rattler seemed like a douche, he did seem to be hyper competitive which is a quality you must have to be an elite QB. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see him be really good, but he hasn’t had a chance to really show much yet.
Riley seems to be able to handle QBs that are/were considered "difficult" at points in their career. Mayfield and Murray had what some might consider "issues" along the way. Hurts was the opposite. While we know Mayfield has had his antics, Coach GQ didn't handle the transfer situation very well IMO.

There was this young kid name Mahomes that was entering Tech......

I think its a bit much to say he's going to be better than Mayfield or Murray. He has the potential but you can't just assume the guy is going to be a Heisman trophy winning #1 pick type player after only seeing a handful of backup reps. He was the top rated quarterback in his class, has alot of weapons, and has had time to learn Reilly's system though, so odds are he's going to do just fine next season.

I'd guess 80% of the time he'll look all world. When things get tough will define how he rates in OU's quarterback hierarchy. I hated Mayfield but you couldn't rattle the guy. He was better than anyone at chunk plays when there was a breakdown-it was both infuriating and amazing to watch. Hurts didn't have that ability and I think that frustrated the OU fan base.

I think that's something that coaches just can't know until players get real reps. It was mentioned that Mayfield transferred out because Mahomes was coming in. That isn't true-he left because he wasn't guaranteed the starting job over Davis Webb after their freshman seasons. I think in hindsight Kingsbury might have done things differently but as freshmen there wasn't enough separation between the two for him to promise either the job was theirs.

Same thing happened a couple of years earlier at Oklahoma State. Alex Cate and Brandon Weeden were no. 2 and 3 behind Zac Robinson. Cate looked better in practice so when Robinson was out one week against Colorado Cate got the start. He was dogshit in the first half, got pulled for Weeden who brought us back to win the game. One guy looked better getting backup reps in practice but on the field it was a different story.

If I'm betting I'd guess he's going to be in their top 5 all time QB's and that's a Heisman caliber season at some point. He could pull a Bomar or blow his shoulder out too-you never really know.

kid is talented. Much better passer. He did miss much of his senior season for behavioral reasons, so hoping that rears it’s ugly head

The kid was suspended in High School for having sex.

Don’t get caught at school for having sex.

He may not turn out to be worth a shit, but getting caught fucking at school is not a “behavioral issue”, it’s a “pick-a-new-place-to-screw” issue.

That rumor is incorrect.

Does anybody actually know why because I heard he got caught having sex at school also. I went to a couple of his games out here in Phoenix. He looked good but it’s so hard to forecast until the time comes. That plus I believe he was the top rated QB in the country so he better have looked good.

How good is high school football in Phoenix? If this was a Georgia or Florida kid I would have more comfort in evaluating. For example the football I’ve seen in NC is definitely subpar to what I used to see in the top divisions in Alabama.

Not all things are equal.

I think it’s pretty good but I’m originally from Boise, Idaho so I don’t have a lot to compare it to. A fair share of four and sometimes even five stars come out of here. The offers being made to division one QBs every year in particular are ridiculous. Obviously overall it doesn’t stack up to the more heavily populated states like CA, TX, and FL or probably even certain states in the Deep South. The greater area of Phoenix is 6 million but the rest of the state is only 2.
