From high school coach to Bengals' 'rock star' and Zac Taylor's right-hand man
This is an article about former Moeller coach, turned Bengals assistant, Doug Rosfeld. I don't know anything about the guy, and I'm sure he was a great coach and all... But this article is hilarious on so many levels. When describing Rosfeld's role, the following gems emerge:
-"Before Taylor's debut at Seattle, the coach realized the team meeting was scheduled too late because of the three-hour time change by going west. Rosfeld already had the itinerary adjusted ahead of the Week 11 trip to Oakland."
An NFL team masters the intricacies of time zones!!! While other franchises have MIT statisticians working on goal line and short yardage percentages, the Bengals have high school teachers learning how to schedule team meetings. Who-Dey!
-"He checks to see whether there will be frost on the practice field, which then requires a shift to move practice inside Paul Brown Stadium instead of on the usual grass fields across the street. Rosfeld even will put on a scout-team jersey during walkthroughs."
Why build a bubble when you have ole reliable Doug Rosfeld to ensure the practice field is frost-free? It's not like a star Bengal has ever been hurt due to inferior practice fields (hello AJ Green). Coach also puts on a scout-team jersey - Probably because we are carrying people on the active roster that have no chance at hitting the field which limits are PS (hell AJ Green!).
"But his most visible contribution comes on game days, when he carries Cincinnati’s red challenge flag in his back right pocket."
Valuable indeed.... Rather than having a coach that has pockets in his pants, we have good ole coach who carries the flag around.
