Broke my collarbone skiing. So my left side is now about a half-inch slimmer than my right side as far as shoulder-length goes which kind of fucked everything up as far as a swing goes. I played for a few months after it healed like 6 months later but there's just a lot of work I need to do to get back. Gave me new respect for football players. I broke that thing and I was down for like 15 minutes. Grossest feeling I ever experienced in my life and a broken collarbone is a pretty common injury that NFL players come back from.

Oh...I fractured an ankle in HS playing BB, but no broken bones since...one of my golf buddies is trying to recover from a bad fall from a ladder...broken back and heel. 6 months afterwards, he can make a turn for a golf swing, but still can't put too much pressure on the right heel. I told him just focus on chipping and putting for now...spring you should be ready to swing again.

Recovery is a bitch the older you get.

I played in bb HS and was pretty decent...had some mid major schools offering me scholarships my Jr yr...but Sr yr the team was terrible...I got moved from two guard to center...one of the mid majors was still interested in me walking on, but I wasn't that keen on doing that. Went to a local school and didn't play at all. Actually stopped playing altogether until I got married and I played in a over 30 league, then the over 40 league....that's when my knees started giving me trouble.

The last time I played basketball was maybe 5 or 6 yrs ago. I was up at the playground by myself just shooting around. Some youngsters (some teens, some 20 somethings) came up to play full court so I moved to one of the side baskets to get out of the way. Lo and behold...next thing you know I'm on a team playing the winners from the previous game. This was outdoors on a concrete court...the next day my knees were like rubber...took several days of icing and heat pads to get things back to normal...that was my last time playing basketball.

You're a hell of a lot better than I was then. I just played pick-up ball religiously from the mid-80's to about 2003. We had a pretty good run where I used to live with the same guys playing every weekend (bunch of jc guys and maybe a couple of d1 guys who rode the bench for mediocre programs). That was cool because everybody knew each other and there was no bullshit. Moved up to Seattle and there was a run at the Y up here. Nice courts but half the games were young people bitching about fouls or just jawing at each other. Last time I was there some fight broke out and I said screw it, it's not worth it. . The thing that always cracked me up was the guys that actually had game were mostly pretty cool about everything and just wanted to have fun. It's the average ones who think they're better than they are that cause most of the problems.

Phil's supposed to play today. Cloudy with a high of 45 and a 10mph stiff breeze, no thanks.

Last weekend might have been my last.

So, pretty much the same thing as golfers.

45??? Golf isn't a fair weather sport, get out there and play some golf.

I'm still hoping the snow melts and the course reopens. Supposed to hit high 30's low 40's late next week.

45 and sunny with no wind, sure. The wind's starting to pick up now.

I'm going out back in heavy flannel to finish up my wood cutting for the year. Then beers and football.

hey, yesterday was exactly 7 months since my hip job and I did morning and afternoon pheasant hunts. Feeling great today so I'm pretty sure that I'll be making up for lost time next spring!

Yeah, pretty much. Based on the people I've played with half of all recreational golfers drive the ball 300+. I just happened to get paired with them on an off day.

Holy shit I’ve been busy this year. Here is my GOLFTEC update.
It’s been about 8 months since I started.

60% fairways hit

20% greens in reg, but I’m close enough for chipping or an easy pitch instead of digging in the weeds looking for my ball.

Scoring:
Before: triple digits
After: mid-high 80’s

Average distance Driver:
Before: 200-230 prone to slice
After: 250-270 slight draw

Average 7 Iron:
Before: 120-130 chronic push fade
After: 150-160 slight draw.

biggest improvements:
Posture and swing mechanics
Practice swings and target alignment
Overall short game.

watched the videos of last years swing and it’s pretty embarrassing. Now it’s more fluid, almost slower looking.

i enjoy golf an hell of a lot more now that I understand more about it. When I hit a bad shot I normally know exactly what went wrong before I finish the swing. It does take about a thousand swings before each adjustment to take hold without me thinking about it.

I still struggle with consistency sometime but it’s more because one bad shot leads to others and I start to get frustrated. That is until I settle down and get my swing mechanics back under control. Still can’t hit a 3-wood off the deck worth a shit but I rarely need to.

Course reopened today, most of the snow must have melted.

I have a noon tee time. Current temp is 39 with winds 15-20 miles an hour gusting to 35. It should warm up to 45 around the time I make the turn.

I'm hoping the ground is soft enough to get a tee in.

Congrats!

You've taken a good 15 shots off your round in one season, job well done.

I still remember my " vast improvement period"...going from triple digits to 90s didn't take very long at all, but I was stuck in the 90s for a at least 2 golf seasons before I was able to break 90 consistently.

I don't hit that many balls anymore, maybe a med bucket once or twice a week. Back just can't take hitting 200+ balls a day like I once did. One area I'm still working on to keep at least where I am is my chipping and pitching.

We're closing up for the year up here although we stay open all year with temp tees and a flag cut in front of the greens.

Life in the northeast.

I've been stagnant the last few weeks anyway....tons of rain heading our way Sat. so that will mark 4 weeks I haven't played.

A vendor wants to treat me to a round next week though so I will get to the range Sunday if it's not a mudfest.

Played nine+holes yesterday, shot a 49 over the front nine.

Temp was 28 with a windchill of 17. Ball wasn't carrying at all, I hit a nine iron from 80 yds out and only made it to the back of the green...that club is usually 140-150- range.

Have a 1pm tee time for today, it should be close to 40 degrees, hopefully that improves distance.

Already 43 here...sun supposed to pop out about 11ish 53 today...it stopped raining earlier than expected yesterday...might not be a mudfest out there...I'm teetering on going out to play instead of hitting balls.

May watch football later.

Crazy bastard.

We've got low 50s and sunny tomorrow with 5mph wind. Prolly the last chance this year so I'm bringin' my clubs and heading out at the bell tomorrow~

Well here's my final round tracker post of the year. What a beautiful day yesterday with mid fifties and sunny. I had a goal of nothing worse than bogey and I managed 5 bogeys and three pars for a +5 over eight holes.

Best shot of the day was on 15 after skying my drive out a hundred and fifty yards. I had 190 left with carry over a bunker and I flushed my 5 wood perfectly to the front edge of the green.

Let's just hope my next fucking ailment doesn't derail the 2020 season~

Played back to back weekends...2 weeks ago I played Chateau Elan...the Woodland course.

Chateau Elan is a really nice winery/spa and they have 54 holes plus a p hole par 3...The elite course the Legends is private...one time host of a PGAT event. The other two 18s are Chateau par 72 and Woodlands par 72...Woodlands is a little shorter, but much tighter, more elevation change, just a harder track...shot 43-46. The week before that I had a vendor take me out for a round...we probably started too late, but we stood on the 1st tee for 40 minutes...I called it then...we're not finishing, and we didn't...got in 14 holes and the last two holes it was probably too dark to see.

Back at the home track on Friday after Thanksgiving...42-43...won the front, lost the back and overall to a 45-39....good match...almost neck and neck thru 16, he had me by a shot. I shank my approach into the hazard and make dbl 6, he makes par to take a 3 shot lead on the back with 2 holes to play...on the par 5 17th I'm in the FA, he's way right (nearly OB, but in play), my second shot is about 20 yd short of the green...he goes left about 40 yds short of the green in rough/trees. He barely advanced his 3rd shot, still in the rough/tree area. I pitch up close, about 4' birdie. His next shot almost from the same area hits the front apron...kicks on to the green and rolls about 15' or so and drops in the cup...for a birdie 4. I make my birdie, but bogey 18 and he made par to take the back by 4 and the overall by 1.

I hope that's not the last round of 2019...actually this weekend forecast looks better than it does today.

Oh man, that's golf. You always have to assume your opponent is going to hole his next shot.

....sad to get this in my monthly club e-mail:

The golf course, greens and tees, tennis courts and bar are closed for the season.
The short course is open for play on holes# 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 & 18.

We got a foot of snow in this storm giving me two snow days off from work but closing the course for good. They'll cut a flag just short of the greens on the holes listed and we don't use the tee areas but on any decent day if the snow's gone, we can hit it around. Mostly used early season before the course opens.
