#2 Oregon, #3 Alabama, #4 Oklahoma, #6 Texas A&M, #12 UCLA, #13 Georgia, and #15 LSU all lost that October weekend.
I didn't look past #15, but there were likely some others between #15 and #25.

Iirc, #2 Oregon lost on a Friday night to Zona(?) at home. And everybody was going crazy. Then Saturday came and it was chaos. The Ducks timed their loss perfectly, everybody had kind of forgotten about it on Sunday morning.

Like I said in an earlier post, it can start on a Thursday night.

Coaches use it as locker room fodder to motivate their teams to a different level while the highly ranked favorites get complacent because they're so used to winning and being media darlings. Oregon Friday night was likely the motivating factor for all the other upsets that weekend.

Underdog coaches this week..........

"South Carolina did it two weeks ago, so can you"
"Illinois did it last week, so can you"

It happens.

The quality of those highly ranked/favored teams doesn't change because of the loss. They just get their minds right after getting caught with their pants down. These are college kids, they get complacent. Even the coaches can see it in practice, but there's not much they can do about it until the kids themselves learn the hard way.
