#1 in rz ints in his time. Only 5 times rating over 90...
And there was a talent, and rushing offense was notso bad( but they run it rarely, why?), and defense sometimes were among the best.

And yet, in the 20 years since he retired, only 4 QBs have passed him in an era of passing that has catered to the QB looking good.

He might not get passed again for awhile either:

Rivers might by 2020.
Big Ben could by 2020 (I have doubts that he makes it that long though).
Eli won't.
Rodgers will if he stays healthy.
Ryan is still a long shot.

After that you're looking at the younger QBs.

How many QBs of his era had much better than that? Fouts 58.8%. Aikman 61.5%. Elway 57% Even Montana was at 63.5%.

That's just with a quick Google search.

Lesson is, it was a bit harder to play QB back then. Less defensive penalties and less protection for the QB.

By the way, I'm not even that big of a Marino fan. I was 10 when Ace Ventura came out and thought that his Superbowl was actually a close game, until my dad laughed at me and said "The Dolphins got blown out!"

Is this a joke? Look at the numbers other QB's were putting up during this time period. These numbers blow every other QB away from that era.

So... which QB is this guy fanboying to find Marino to cause insecurity?

I am seriously laughing at the question why they didn't run it more...

Marino was infinitely better than your average QB back then. And even back then it made much more sense to pass than run; granted teams are smarter about that now than they were then as it was no longer the 1970's out there. If this is some weird dunk that Marino is actually secretly inefficient because Miami had to throw everything on Marino's shoulders to win a lot of years, then... what are we really saying here?

This really seems like the OP is re-living a career via stats and applying it to today....Marino would not be the perfect QB in this era (couldn't move well) but with his quick release and arm talent, he would be a huge star now just as he was then. The Dolphins never got an equally as good DEF (or anything close to equal) during the Marino era, and as a result they never got back to the SB after the '84 season.

Not the most talented QB I've ever seen, but as a passer, he was just a killer, gun slinger, you were never comfortable up one possession on the Dolphins...saw him live a few times in the old Orange Bowl, and once in the new Joe Robbie.
