The stars have been aligning for them this year. They play in the PAC South where everyone else is down, they have a soft OOC schedule, they picked up transfers where they were thin, solid defense and their new OC seems to be the real deal.

Other than the two transfers SC got this offseason, it hasn't been good for the two LA schools with the scandals and SC's coaching uncertainty. That and the LA schools have taken a big time nose dive in recruiting.

I believe they go hand in hand. When you can't recruit on top of scandal after scandal your media can only do so much for you.

fwiw... i think costello is primed to rise in national prominence... gunslinger with talent, decent receiving crew, and no goto runner in stanford's backfield. veteran line will focus on pass block

bad apple in every barrel..... the sailing coach was dismissed summarily. no excuse here. certainly didn't not impact our gridiron program
