As a Lakers fan, I'm not OK with it (just like I don't like other team's players training with Kobe). Keep that expertise within the organization. If he wants a tutorial, he knows which team to force a trade to...:trash:
Kobe Bryant doesn't work for the Lakers though and he can do as he wishes. That's his business - but I am not okay either with Magic Johnson helping a player of a competitor.

That depends on if he has any contact with Simmons or not. Knowing that Simmons wants to talk to him and acting on it are two separate situations. If Simmons contacted Magic Johnson and expressed his wishes or requests - the only correct answer should have been - " I'm sorry, but I can't do that as long as I am working for the Lakers" It's a conflict of interest to say the least

Who says he didn’t say that? We don’t know exactly what happened. As far as I’m concerned he did everything right.

Is he not supposed to talk to, mention or interact with any other player anymore even if they contact him first in fear that some jealous pussy-ass executive is going to lose their shit?

I'm not saying Johnson did or didn't, I'm just saying that's what he needs to do. He has a target on his back now because of his first violation, so now he needs to be extra careful because yes the other executives are going to be pissy about it. He shouldn't have said anything about it to any one to begin with because now everyone wants to know how he knew that if he didn't talk to Simmons.

So it’s Magics fault an NBA player wants his advice?
We don't know, but the NBA is investigating. Why would they be investigating if there is nothing there? Usually, where there is smoke, there is fire.

lol

Looks like that's not the case here.

Turns out that Simmons contacted Magic and Magic told him that he'd be happy to, but he has to get it cleared by the NBA first.

The NBA is just looking into it because they have to make sure that's what it was really about and that nothing else was discussed that could be considered tampering.

Looks like Magic handled it exactly right (as long as that was all they talked about).

Why? Because there are plenty of people out there who are butthurt.

Heck, even Elton Brand laughed it off.

Why did you think the butthurt comment was a direct reference to you? Did you want to tell us something?

I didn't think that. Saying there are plenty of people who are butthurt implies the Lakers/Magic are worth getting butthurt over. .500 teams aren't worth anything, really.

Do you think this is tampering?

Shit, if Simmons contacting Magic for advice on how to play point guard is tampering...

then Pop needs to be fined heavy for tampering for Demps calling him wanting advice on what to do when the Lakers were trying to trade for AD.

BOOM.

Which is precisely why the 6ers should let Magic do it. At their facility where they can control it though.

Magic was a shitty coach. Let Simmons see it first hand right now and it kills the mystique of playing for the Lakers later.

I get why they won't do it, but there is just as much downside to saying no as there is to saying yes. These guys can already communicate if they want to. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

Here is the Lakers statement:

The 76ers sent an e-mail back in November asking if Simmons could meet with Johnson. Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka then contacted 76ers GM Elton Brand to say the meeting would only occur with the 76ers permission. No such meeting has been planned.

Magic's comment: "Hey, you got to clear it with the league. And if everybody, the Sixers sign off, we sign off, the league sign off that's nothing going on...fine. But if everybody doesn't sign off, then we can't get together".

Elton Brand called it "no issue" and acknowledged that he has been in contact with Pelinka about Simmons initial request. "Simmons has taken an interest in chatting with some all-time greats and we're supportive. I had a brief dialogue with Rob Pelinka, who I've known for a long time, but nothing is planned. Our focus is on making a postseason push".

I get that folks want to try to make a big deal out of this because it's Magic and the Lakers.

Looks like you're going to have to find something else.
