I absolutely love the injected strategic technicalities. I hope Romo's popularity will help usher in a new wave of analysts that bring strategic insights to commentary rather than the non-stop player fellating that has occurred in the booth since John Madden.
I'm not very technical at understanding FB, but Tony Romo relates to me at the bonehead level. I think that's why he's connecting to his audiences.

yeah, but the teams are supposed to have some expert up high in the booth who can see it all, same view.

My point was Tony sees defenses better at that angle then he did when he was a player on the field.
I knew I should've used green font:doh:

I like Romo as a color guy. I just wish he would tone down his gayness (overly happy) it's just a game Tony. It's not a life and death call.

I think Tony Romo has found his calling, from all his years of "been there, seen that". I don't think he should venture into coaching cuz then you had to deal with how to motivate people, folks with attitudes, chips on their shoulders, prima donnas, snowflakes, fragile egos, etc.

his gift is that he can put what he sees, what he thinks, what he knows, into words instantaneously, in a natural manner of speech. He doesn't have to think about how to express something.

most other folks with that body of technical knowledge, they have to think about, how to express it so it's understood, and still capture all the key points. difficult to do in real-time.

He makes $1.5 million per for CBS, just under $100K/game. He could make more as a HC, but he can sit in that booth for the next 25 years working 10 hours a week...

Also has plenty of free time to pursue his golf interests.

I'm sure that his preparation time for a game is significant. He works a lot more than 4hrs/wk.

I read where he actually spent more than 10 straight hours watching the Patriots offense on film and did the same for KC. I can't imagine that he does that every week, but my guess is that he'll do it for the Rams and spend a few hours refamiliarizing himself with the Pats before the Suoer Bowl.

I remember Howard Cosell in the booth and his ass was saved a thousand times by Don Meridith. QBs as color guys plays well.........Meridith, Simms, Fouts, Aikman and Romo......they understand what's going on and what should happen.

CBS broadcaster Tony Romo confirmed he's received recent contract offers from NFL teams.

It's not surprising; Romo is now years removed from the back injuries that effectively ended his career and won't turn 39 until April. "There was something earlier this season and definitely two times this offseason," said Romo. "Usually, it is a coach that reaches out." Romo did indicate he's happy in broadcasting, where he's fast emerged as the top color analyst in the game.

Probably was the Jags that came calling. Coughlin's familiarity with Romo.

Yeah it was just reported that he is up to $4 million a year and CBS is looking to sign him to a big raise and extension. As I have said about Tony before, Ring of Honor QB, $70 million in the bank and 7 figures per year, ten hour work week for half a year, scratch golfer and a wife who is a 10. Winning.....

I thought Romo would be more nervous.
It being his first appearance in a Conference Championship and all......

He did provide invaluable insight and made the game more interesting to watch.
Kudos to him.

Obviously that isn’t the case, because he literally called exactly where they were going to run the ball too in a few plays
There were definitely some run plays where the Chiefs were lined up a certain way and Brady just switched the play. Chiefs D has been giving that type of stuff up for 3 years now, though. Bob Sutton is a swear word in KC and has been for awhile.

It's fun to listen to. However, I don't think it's nearly as big of a deal as is being made.

He is like a fan in the booth that learned not to cuss.

Most ex QB's are used to studying a lot of film. Not too sure about the 10 hours straight but I would say the majority of these guys have a pretty good idea from study. It's just that some of them don't come across broadcasting as good as others. Simms was awful. Aikman seems to forget who's on the field at times but sometimes he is okay. My only issue with Fouts is he seems to be say some off the wall stuff from the 80's that makes you wonder. To Romo's credit, being only a short time out of the game, he has a better handle on the modern version.
Howard Cosell was absolutely horrible as an analyst and you're right, Meredith had to bail him out.
Madden was likely the best of all of them.
Dennis Miller and Kornheiser are probably the bottom of the barrel.

He apperently reads defences better from the booth as opposed to ground level. Better stay where he's at.

Predicting NEs offense is not that hard. Hell I'm right probably 80% of the time.

Yeah I am sure that makes it much much easier but he does it well. I think he could get more money in the booth but he might get the itch to do it

This.

Romo and other announcers get to do pregame prep with coaches and players on both teams and get to attend some practices and run throughs on promise of confidentiality.

I'm not saying Tony Romo's psychic. I'm just saying that in the off-season he likes to play wack-a-mole blindfolded.
