I was hoping that Ponicks would win just because to be quite honest, getting over 100 points and drawing Detroit in the first round sucks. But for who the Sharks play, I didn't really care which team it was. Both would be very difficult to beat. The Pavelski line was fantastic, but the Sharks will not beat Detroit if the Thornton line combines for 1 goal in 6 games again. They must get on the board more often. The Sharks can win this series, but the must show up for every game. Any lapses and Detroit will take advantage.

Should be a great series to watch, definite tune-in after Flyers games next series

Sharks in 7 as Howard looked shaky vs the Doan-less Yotes (for the most part) and the Sharks have more firepower than the Yotes do...

Of course, these ARE the Sharks after all...but methinks this is the year for the Sharks to breakthrough

Sharks have to jump on Detroit early in the series given how far the Wings were extended. If San Jose plays the same was they did early on in the Avs series, Detroit will crush them.

Agreed.

The Wings are really clicking on all cylinders right now, and putting up that many goals against Bryz, only adds to their confidence.

Sharks need to take it to them hard right away.

That will be a great series! Now I finally got a site to watch all games online...its nice to be able to watch. I like Sharks games only because they start later so I can catch it after work. If the Wings keep playing like the '07-'08 team, the sharks may be on my grill in 2 weeks. Mako anyone?

Looks like the Nucks and the Sharks are up against it with the Hawks and Wings. Good luck to both of us ;-)

Good luck Posty and Soggy, but let us have this one.....you guys already have enough.....especially recently!

In all honesty, I think this series will be easier on the Wings than the previous. Not saying they'll win it, but the neutral-zone trap teams like Phoenix always give the Wings headaches.

None of this has any bearing on the series at hand, but here is some historical data:

This series will mark the fourth time since the Sharks inaugural seaon in '91-92 that the two teams have met in the playoffs:

1994 Conference Quaterfinals- San Jose 4 Detroit 3. This was the first ever playoff series for the Sharks (they finished the regular season with 82 pts. and the eighth seed under Kevin Constantine after having registered a mere 24 pts. the season before). The Sharks actually won two games in Detroit in this series, games one and seven. After five games, Detroit was down 3-2, but thrashed San Jose 7-1 in game six. San Jose rebounded and took the decisive game 3-2 on Jamie Baker's game winning goal in the third.

1995 Conference Semifinals- Detroit 4 San Jose 0. San Jose came into this series after a brutal seven game affair with the Calgary Flames in the conference quarterfinals that saw two overtime games (including double overtime in game seven), while the Wings had little trouble advancing past Dallas 4-1 in their first round series. In fact, Detroit would have little trouble reaching the Stanley Cup Finals this year, losing only two games in the three series prior to the SCF. Detroit seemed intent on showng that the prior year's results had been a complete fluke, as they out-scored the Sahrks 24-6 in the four game series, scoring six goals in each game.

2007 Conference Semifinals- Detroit 4 San Jose 2. At one point, San Jose held a 2-1 edge before Detroit won the final three games, including a critical 3-2 OT victory in game four, and a 2-0 game six victory in San Jose. Dominic Hasek limited the Sharks to nine goals in six games.

This season's series will mark the first time that San Jose comes in as the higher seed and has home ice advantage (in the previous three series combined, the home team was 9-8).

Not sure what to expect from this series. I'm hesitant to go against the Wings because they still have players with the winning pedigree. But I think the Phoenix series may have taken some gas out of them. Sharks in six.

Can the Sharks get up to playing the defending Western Conference finalists after the parades and celebrations in San Jose for passing the first round?

It'll be a fun series to watch. Detroit in 6.
