LOL im picking at his retarded statements!

and wtf kinda rule is this???
  1. No dominating the conversation. Do not dominate the conversation, whether it is a single thread, or the overall conversation on the board for the day. A successful message board community involves give and take. If one poster contributes too much, to the point of disrupting the community, he or she may be banned.

Seriously who the fuck would agree to that?

Why do posters allow mods to ignore posters who ignore rules and punish others instead of goin above their heads?

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous :D

Welcome to Rivals.

Wasn't that in reference to overhearing people shit talk Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue and Mark Knoppfler thinking, "yeah that little faggot is a millionaire" in a fuck you dickwad kind of way?

"Money for Nothing" came about from Mark listening to some dude in a store shit-talking. He got some heat for using that word and most of the time the whole 2nd verse is removed from radio broadcasts and even MTV/VH1 started excluding it which led to Mark talking about the origin of the song itself.

The way I understand it, he was in an electronics store and I guess there was a display TV on MTV and that led to the rant that Mark would use in his song. Basically, "Money for Nothing" is a protagonist perspective song and not necessarily Mark's point of view. Another good example of this is "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by the Band.

A few years later, that word, along with some others would be used derisively in a Guns N' Roses song "One in a Million" which is also protagonist perspective, but largely based on insecurities Axl Rose was feeling at the time he left Lafayette, IN for Los Angeles.

You are both right, actually. Knopfler was in an appliance store in NYC and the delivery man was in the back of the store watching the wall of TV's, which were playing a Motley Crue video on MTV. The delivery guy basically was shitting on the band suggesting that the band was merely actor/performers, that they weren't doing anything, but got their chicks for free. "That ain't workin'," "That's the way you do it", "money for nothing and your chicks for free" were all actual comments the delivery driver made that Knopfler wrote down in the store.

That's why cowpoke was one of my favorites as a mod. He didn't let the tattle-tale bitches get their way and even went so far as to call them out by fan bases.

That may have been my only real gripe about Rivals was the ridiculous amount of protection for some of the shittiest trolls on the Internet and letting the little soft pussy bitches be heard because they would start shit, get smacked down then run to tattle.

I just find it to be retarded that people put up with it when there are plenty of things that could be done.

That is their problem, i get to laugh at all of it :D

The rule is actually not a bad one.

When we had someone repeatedly attacking or trying to shout everyone down or going from thread to thread with the same stuff, we could invoke it as a warning to back off.

Gotta put a little air between comments.

I'm usually on the side of the mods but what we have are dogs protecting their bone.

It's a little more than that too though. How people react to things can cause problems or people to take offense. A few people still on SoundOff seems to have forgotten how bans were usually handed out and their duration for certain things.

It's like the rules changed suddenly without warning.

Yes, I know. It was swift. I have not left SO, but wanted to see what this place was all about. What happened hasn't been easy to take, but I can't help thinking we will get things back in order.

The problem comes about because of the whole negative thing, if a poster is allowed to make fun of someone who is attention whoring or dominating a conversation then the community takes care of it. Rules are for serious things only not something as simple as "oh no you made me scroll"

I dont think we will come to a complete agreement on this. Too many rules made it to where that had to be a rule. Let the board police itself except for extreme cases (like here) and things hum along just fine. Sure there might be a pissing match or what have ya but it isnt hard to skip over it :D

Here’s my take...

Let it be. If they want to talk shit or feel like they have to defend Soundoff let them. The board lost a lot of posters. Obviously they want to avoid losing more. Even if it means demonizing the ones no longer there. Some will understand why people leave, some will be defensive. Some will mock the bans. Some will argue that they were heavy handed and in some cases undeserved. That’s human nature.

My time, and my concern, with Rivals has come to an end. I joined 11 years ago, I enjoyed my time as a member and I did my best to add something to the board whether it be humor, setting up go fund me accounts, running contests, taking over trophy responsibilities after DickC passed, trash talking, or losing my shit after a Mizzou loss among other things.

Now I’m a member here. SportsHoopla has been welcoming to those of us who have joined. I will do my best to add something to this board the way I did on that board.

There is no going back to Rivals. Regardless of the bans ever being lifted or not, I won’t be returning under this name or any other name.

And so, I will let it be. Let them talk, let them be cocky or angry or whatever. Let us all enjoy our message board homes, both old and new. And let Greg Ladky step on a rake and burst both of his testicles.

Bowl games start soon. Let’s get back to talking about how Drew Lock is going to make Gundy cry.

Something funny is that in the music video, it looks like they were lampooning Wham! and/or Duran Duran during the 2nd verse. Even funnier is that the "Baby, Baby" by First Floor music video was shot with an actual group called Elso Emelet or "First Floor" in English. They thought it was going to be their big break in the American market until they realized how it was being used. A year later, Elso Emelet, the Hungarian "First Floor" in question would make their own music video and boy does it overcompensate for the gay slurring in "Money for Nothing."

Speaking of which, Dire Straits weren't even interested in music videos. They had to be talked into "Money for Nothing" having one and after that, they did videos for "Walk of Life" and "Brothers in Arms," both of which are good.

Different philosophies for different boards.

Rivals was more than just a message board and owned by a major corp with a financial interest. Whole lot different from SportsHoopla.

Personally I think there's too little moderation here for things like people attacking others but it's hooplas way and as a member, I abide by that.

I won’t be coming back, sheluvs. I’m not even sure what I was banned for, but I’m not one to rebuild burned bridges. I’m here now and planning to stay, tell @huskerlivinTN I said to stop by and say hello from time to time; the Music Forum is pretty cool over here.

That’s pretty interesting that he was able to pull those quotes and make such a great song out of it.

Yea, that is part of the self policing aspect though. Shaming people out of their stupidity helps keep it moving. People will either be able to handle some shit talking or they will run and cry like that Jenner peach twat.
