All things being equal, I saw what i was hoping to see.

1. A defense that could actually stop the run. While the Cards are a rebuilding team under a new coach with an injury prone QB, they do have a good RB. And I would have been content not giving up 150 yards on the ground. Keeping them below 70 was Awesome.

2. Holding them to less than 150 yards passing was a bonus.

3. AP was actually better than I expected. ( can he do it for 16 games is going to be a running theme though)

4. Smith is who he is, He played as well as advertised

Ok...disclaimer.....the Cardinals were horrible today. Now let's get down to business.

Gruden didn't play his starters in the preseason and they came out and dominated the 1st half. Props to Gruden on his first 1-0 start and having the boys ready.

Alex was what he's always been, a good mobile QB that doesn't turn the ball over and usually ends up on the right side of the scoreboard at the end of the night.

Dink and dunk is not pretty but it sure keeps your defense off the field and controls the clock.

Keenum threw 3 picks today.
Bradford still sucks.
A.J. MaCarron was horrible in August
Etc.......

Smith was the best solution to a fked up situation. Skins traded back and recouped the 3rd round pick and Dunbar and Moreau were lights out today causing me to eat a bunch of crow. On the flip side, maybe Fuller wasn't the end all be all after all. We'll see. It's one game.

Concerns
Lack of path rush was alarming.
The WR group doesn't appear to be very good.
Apke saved a TD which brings up ST issues yet again.
Peterson's ball security.
D.J. seems to be out of position a lot lately.

The Good
Chris Thompson is on his way to becoming a star.

I almost want to extend AP another year right now so we can have him and Guice as a one two punch next year.

Trent Williams was his usual spectacular self.

Can't stress enough how good Payne is against the run. I think he might be a little better than Allen, which is crazy to me.

Hopkins was money and again, Dunny and Fabian were great today.

For this team to have a chance this year they have to start 2-0. One down, one to go. This team cannot give Luck the amount of time Bradford had today. If they go into the Green Bay game 2-0, there will be a playoff atmosphere at FedEx.

Good win. They beat the hell out of a bad football team. They did what they were supposed to do, which doesn't always happen with our Skins.

Pretty sure TW had 3 penalties today and missed a few blocks. Not his normal spectacular play today. Not knit picking or on him but not his best today which is good.

Kept Jones off of Smith. Never seen anyone man handle Jones like that.

How the hell were they all picking Arizona???
A pick em game from the oddsmakers and a lot of questions regarding what both teams might show. Also, national media and pundits usually have no clue when it comes to the Skins tbh.

Luck, Rodgers, and Brees on deck. We will know a lot more about this team a month from now, but if they had lost yesterday............man.

He was going against Chandler Jones. I would consider it a pretty damned good game.

Good analysis. However - let's not get ahead of ourselves & make these major conclusions after only one game. Remember there are several young players at key positions as well as several key players who are new to the Redskins. It takes time for them to get used to things as well as time for them to gel w/ their teammates.

I would not go too crazy on any of the good or bad things that occurred yesterday. AP had a great game, but he also had some of those last season. I am encouraged, but you never know how he will do overall this season (in any case it was a good move obtaining him since it was a low risk move).

On the flip side I would not get too discouraged about the WRs. They will still need to time to gel w/ Smith & w/ each other. Yesterday's game was also heavily geared towards the run & short passes so it is kind of hard to be too critical of these guys. Give this area another month or so before determining whether they are good or bad.

Ditto for the defense. They were very good for the most part, but also had a few issues (as do all NFL defenses). Again - lots of young players & new players in key spots - it will take time for this unit to come together, but the signs are very promising.

We all know that there will be ups & downs this season - let's hope that the ups out number the downs. HTTR

I did write we'll see, it's one game in my post. Like I said, we will know more after facing Luck, Rodgers, and Brees.

I do agree with your point about the wr's. Smith did go an entire year without a TD pass to a wr I believe. It just doesn't seem like Doctson gets much separation, but the missed opportunity to Richardson provides hope.

Kirk qb rating 98. ALEX QB RATING 118

Please - let's not go there. Two totally different QBs in completely different situations. They will both likely have their highs & lows this season. Personally I just want Smith to do whatever he needs to do to get the Redskins more wins. Cousins is in the rear view mirror - I wish him success but otherwise don't really care about him & certainly won't get caught up in something as silly as comparing his stats to Smith.

NP & I guess I was replying just as much to some other replies in this thread. I just grow tired of the "Skins are great" after a win & "Skins suck" after a loss type replies. The truth is in the middle & folks just need to be a bit more objective. Anyhow - yesterday was fun to watch - need more of that for the remainder of the season.

i would like to point out to a lot of the predictions made in stymie's thread . there was a lot of nervousness about this team .
many , including myself had this as a must win game , a conference foe with tie breakers coming into play

the team executed and played well . a positive person would say that they went out and beat a "lesser team " like they should have . something that in the past i have found this team wanting in

a loss to the colts will turn all this into urine but for now i am going to enjoy this win , perhaps look at some exotic crow recipes and get ready for the colts after enjoying the win

hopefully our 2 young wr's ankles are ok
