I respect the hell out of Shaw. He could have bolted for the NFL if he wanted to by now. Harbaugh jumped as soon as he could. The more I see Harbaugh at Michigan the more I think Shaw had a hand in what Stanford has become than people give him credit for.
Petersen (hey I learned to spell his name right) is obviously a good coach and has done a great job of bringing Washington back up to national prominence. Hopefully for you guys he's not a west coast version of Brian Kelly at ND who took them to the NCG in 2012 and has never gotten close again.
Harbs left a lot more on the plate for Shaw than Sark did for UW just given overall talent, but I'm not saying UW was in the basement either. Sark for sure got them up off the mat and at least had them playing at average level. Just the bump up to where they are now happened very fast and no one yet really knows what his ceiling is.

The last couple of recruiting classes appear to give more room for growth over where they are right now and they have a backlog at QB like I've never seen. All of the pieces are there.

Getting Lake to stay on by letting him play calls was another sign they are willing to do anything to keep on this arc. I don't know a lot of DC's across the country that would have done that for the greater good of the team.

Jimmy has it pretty good. He keeps his boat down at the marina (east side of Lake Washington) and takes that to work every day. His wife likes the area and she doesn't want to relocate.

Doesn't Stanford Have more conference championships during that time( I'm guessing)? Draft pics are cool but isn't winning the goal?

Harbaugh left a full cupboard for Shaw including Andrew Luck when he took the Niners job not to mention Shaw was his RB's coach so he was already established in the system. Sark and his coaching staff up and left for SC two months before signing day while taking the cream of the crop recruits with him. Petersen did what he could do to salvage what was left of that class.

Petersen's record at Washington:

2014: 8 - 6 (extra game w/Hawaii) lost to Oklahoma St. 22 - 30 in the Cactus Bowl
2015: 7 - 6 beat Southern Miss 44 - 31 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl
2016: 12 - 2 lost to Alabama 7 - 24 in the Peach Bowl (CFP)
2017: 10 - 3 lost to Penn St. 28 - 35 in the Fiesta Bowl

Stanford plays in Seattle this year and the Huskies have a new OC (thank god).

Petersen has been HC at UW for four seasons now. Shaw is going into his 8th season at Stanford not to mention he was part of Harbaugh's staff before that.

Harbaugh never even won a conference championship. Shaw took Stanford to #3 five years after Harbaugh left and all of Harbaughs players gone.

Still the cupboard was full when Harbaugh left and Shaw was nothing in the situation Petersen was when Sark and his coaching staff up and left without any warning to SC. The circumstances aren't even comparable. Shaw is an excellent coach no doubt ... but now is the time for the cream to rise to the top. Destiny is calling.

Yup and Shaws Stanford team has finished higher three out of the four years. Look at Harbaugh at Michigan. Shaw might have been on his staff but he's his own man.

Why would Shaw work as one of Harbaugh's assistants at UM when he's HC at Stanford where his wife is a teacher there?

I meant he was in Harbaughs staff but the Stanford culture has been honed by Shaw. Michigan with Harbaugh is nothing like Stanford culture wise.

I'm no fan of Harbaugh. I saw the shit he pulled while at Stanford with Pete Carroll, I saw the shit he pulled with the Seahawks while he was HC at of the Niners ... Harbaugh can be a royal cvnt. Shaw is the polar opposite of Harbaugh.

I haven't looked it up but I heard the other day that UCLA has done the worst or least with the amount of players they have in the NFL. I don't know if I' saying that right. lol. Basically for the amount of players they have in the NFL they have the least wins to show for it out of any team in the country. They have a lot of players in the NFL.

The first cpl years they arent even your players. That's what you inherited. Washington had 6 first and second rounders drafted in Petersens first two seasons. He was the coach but thats the previous coaches players more that Petersens. Pete had no first and second rounders his first two seasons. His players on your list all came in year three and four. After his first season (6-6) Petes team lost only three games in the next three seasons and only one then season after that. lol. Petersens a great coach but you need to slow down on your comparisons to Pete and Saban. I hate Saban as much as you do but the man can coach.

UCLA was killing it in recruiting for awhile. I don't know why they didn't get more wins ... that one is on Mora.
