Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports expects the Cardinals to move on from DB Tyrann Mathieu this offseason.
La Canfora came to this conclusion "based on everything" he heard at the Combine this week. Mathieu saw his play decline in 2017 and is owed a $5 million roster bonus on March 16. Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds threw out Tampa Bay as a possible landing spot for the Honey Badger should he become available. Jason Licht, who now serves as Bucs' GM, was instrumental in drafting Mathieu when he was VP of player personnel for the Cardinals. Mar 2 - 8:40 PM

I think we are not going big this year. Next year is Scherff, Smith and Clam. Scherff is going to cost a boat load. I think that is why TM was let go, they are going to pay Smith. I expect Kerrigan, Smith and Anderson to be the foundation for the next couple of years.

you realize sheriff won't sign till FA starts and his demand will be around 13-16 A year signing players before they become Free agents is going away to much money out there

You can bet the mortgage that he'll want more than Norwell signed for. Norwell is not only the highest paid OG, he's the highest paid Offensive Lineman in the NFL. 5yr, 66.5M, 30M full guaranteed, 13.3M/year.

Sherff will want more than that. Coach isn't far off. I'd expect Sherff to want 14M/year with more than 30M guaranteed.

Yes that is what I expect to happen. But if you want to be a pretty good organization then you want to try to sign the guy before he gets to FA. As I have said 3894753495395737573959393539539753 times, the mistake with Cousin's was letting things get out of hand when he would have signed for $19 million at the end of 2015.

So they plan should be to find a way to sign the guys who can become FAs next year before that happens. We all know what happens if they get to FA.

By the way Zack Martin could be a FA next year also if Jerrah doesn't prevent it before hand.

Let me ask for your thoughts on the changes in the way players and their reps are approaching contract extensions/ new deals? It seems to me that we are now seeing more one year deals and creative ways to use tags to maximize salaries and delay preemptive contracts, than ever before. So, it's with those trends in mind, I ask. Thanks!

I noted last year that the league seemed to be going to more 1 year contracts than in the past. I think at times both player and FO see a benefit. We all knew those 5 year deals were just 2 or 3 year deals. So the big thing was how much guaranteed money was given/paid out. It allows a player like Zac Brown to have a good year and get a better contract or it allows management to bring in a guy like Pryor and pass the next year and not have dead cap money around. My sense is this will go on until a couple of guys get hurt seriously and only have a one year deal. You know the NFL, what is hot today might be history tomorrow.
