Malcolm Butler missed curfew, had weed on him, and argued with coaches over it

The Patriots lost the game at the line of scrimmage and at LB.

Butler would have made zero difference in that game. He doesn't play LB and he doesn't rush the passer. Those are the two areas that cost NE the game.

You obviously saw a different game than most of us here.

It wouldn't have taken much to swing the game.

And for sure he was worth the chance to take when things had already gone pear shaped (as they say in F1).

Of freaking course he would've made a difference. He is a starter, who was a last-minute healthy scratch.

And apparently because of the timing of how it went down the locker room was divided.

Aside from "not much", I can't imagine what BB was thinking.

Apparently Michael "DUI" Floyd is good enough to play for the Patriots but not Malcolm Butler. Good precedent you're setting there Bill.

What?

This would be like if Floyd was bailed out of jail the same day after getting a DUI and played in the Super Bowl. You think that would have happened? Lol

I'm not saying he would have won the MVP but the game was very close. If Butler could have been there to make a play or two or a surer tackle to stop an Eagles drive that would have been the difference between a Eagles win and a Patriots win. He was capable of doing that.
Speculative but very possible.

Well BB cam flat out and said "It wasn't a disciplinary action" there for it was a match up decision. Butler played 98 percent of the snaps this season now all of a sudden he's not good enough? If this was not disciplinary then it was BB being pissy about the Butler situation IMO

It was both - Butler was being a dumb young kid, partying his ass off and having piss poor practices. This isn't the first time either, there have been rumblings that Butler was lighting the candle at both ends... and that they gave Gilmore the $$ because he was a family man who had his head on straight.

Belicheck had enough, and decided to give Malcolm Butler a teaching moment. He either learns from it, or does not.

This has been butlers problem his whole career. He had SEC talent in college but played at west Alabama. That tells you a lot.

I don't think it's a teaching moment. He's an UFA and it's clear they won't tag him... He's gone. This was a FU on the way out the door.

This isn't gonna go away unless BB addresses it with the team. These guys play hurt, give a lot of time, etc ALL bc they trust him to put them in a position to win. A lot of other players and coaches were pissed bc butler got benched. They felt he gave them the best chance to win. The fact that he didn't "change his mind" at halftime after they got torched isn't sitting well.

I liken it to the Seahawks after butler picked off that pass. Those players STILL openly question the HC. If that nonsense carries over to next year with the pats bc of this decision BB will have problems.

Clement didn't even try and avoid would be tacklers.

He changed his path and went straight for them. Craziness from a third down back. But genius.
We love him.

That stiff arm was a favorite moment.

I have lots of them.

I said you'd never know I had just imbibed from my appearance. That was pretty clear.

And you wouldn't, unless I smelled of it.

My wife of 40 years can't tell.

She always smells it.

Pats played a great game. I liked it but would have liked it more if they had run the ball more. Pats got desperate.
Lol can't run on us.

I think he impressed me the most on Sunday of anyone.

Played with serious passion. Your running backs are the shit in general.

It took almost the whole season for the Patriots secondary to get it's act together. You don't mix up that teamwork a day before the Superbowl.

Whether it would have made a difference we'll never now but all they had to do in the second half was to make one stop or prevent one touchdown and they probably would have won.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

it sucks!

They run violently. It turned out to be a great threesome after Sproles went down.

Belichick damaged his legacy here. He had been basically flawless prior.

If people weren't sure before well there have been plenty of signs by now. The dynasty is over. Completely over. Bye bye.
