The secret draft gave me an idea for MLB.
Someone who has played before but is sitting out the MLB is nominated to send Nos a PM before the draft which he doesn't open till after the draft is complete. The PM will give each unit a quarter, either Q1, 2, 3 or 4. The sender can make each unit a different quarter, all the same, it's up to him.
Example....PM says
Lineup - Q3
Bench - Q2
Rotation - Q1
Bullpen - Q4
After the draft, Nos opens and posts the PM. Whatever players you take, and in this format it's all time....you may pick one seasons stats from the quarter of his career listed, last quarter rounded up if necessary.
So say it's like the example above, Lineup is Q3. Let's say my CF had a 15 year career. The quarters would be his 1st-4th seasons, 5th-8th, 9th-12th and 13th-15th....since Lineup was Q3, I get to pick one seasons stats for this player between his 9th and 12th seasons. So if my CF is a HOF that averaged .300/40/102 for his career, that's great, but if his best season between seasons 9-12 was a .270/24/90 stat line, that's what I get for our mock season.
Same with other units. If Rotation was Q1, and I picked a starter who had a 9 year career, it would go seasons 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-9(final quarter is always the round up or down). So if it were Q1, I could post his stat line for either his first or second full season(partial rookie year doesn't count as a season). So if my first starter averaged 20 wins and a 3.00 ERA for their career, but his best Q1 season was 12 wins and 3.60 ERA, that's what I get .
This could be a bust it really fun. What I like about it is we can pick an all time team, but really have no idea how good our team is until we see the quarter we can pick their season from. It also gives us a real season stat line for the players we picked, making the judging a little easier. Also, it makes your bench more important, because it's entirely possible someone on your bench had a career year during his quarter and could be promoted to starter.
