If Smith leads us to a playoff win you and skinsdad still wont credit the FO. That is being a hater.

if , if were a 5th we all would be drunk . anything less then appearance in the NFC title game is a failure because i had KC taking us to the divisional round

i was told we could get a better qb then KC so that is the standard

smith the qb i can live with , the trade was stupid and not needed

I understand simple basics dad...the simple fact here is Cousins camp was NOT signing here, period. The FO (not me) decided a different solution to their problem was Smith. They felt, (so do I) that Smith was/is an option and decided to go that route. Because this decision was made, which by the way is a plan to replace Cousins who again, made it clear he was not signing with WASH.

In short:
Did we get the short end of the trade? Yes
Is the QB we traded for better than Cousins? Slightly
Did the FO have a choice? Not at this point

There is no theory here dad...the FO simply went out and found a QB who could replace one who didn't want to be here. Pretty simple and basic if you ask me. But, keep throwing around the insults mr. moderator!

HTTR!

whether KC was going to sign or not isnt in play , what was in play was getting a replacement , there were 5 FA options that would have cost us players or picks

Here we go, the other side of the coin. Look, Cousins may become Smith one day, they are very similar, wouldn't you agree gk?
I was actually referring to these career numbers (not a lie) that will improve over the next 3-4 years.
Career Comp % 62.4 Yards 31888 TD's 183 Int 96 Rtg 87.4
While they are similar QB's, KC albeit capable, has a ways to go to surpass Smith's numbers. Time will tell.

When all is said and done Smith will finish his career with well over 42k yards and solid numbers barring injury as a Redskin. Look, Cousins is gone, we all wish him well. Move on, get over it, its a business decision that was made due to the fact that Cousins side would not negotiate last year or this year until the FA period begins. Regardless of how YOU look at it, this time frame did not work for the Skins at this point. Draft a QB and start over or deal for one and continue to build around whomever assumes the position. They chose the later.

HTTR!

They are nothing alike. Alex Smith needs the perfect world for his team and himself to have good years. Most of the time, even when things are good around him, he is merely adequate. This last season was his first good year as an individual.

KC’s numbers are far superior to Alex Smith. Just because the guy has started a shit ton more games doesn’t make his numbers better. In perspective, it makes Smith’s numbers very sad.

In an era of the QB, Alex Smith has only one 4,000 yard year and only one other time did he exceed 3500. Last season alone, 8 QBs threw for more than 4K and 13 threw for more than 3500. In 2016, 13 threw for more than 4K and 22 threw for more than 3500.

Alex Smith is a joke on this team. Again, barring a top ten run game and a top ten defense, we won’t win 6 games with Smith...furthermore, we will be playing from behind and Smith will get injured. By game 3, you will be calling for Colt McCoy.

WOW!!
I have a question for everyone that's related to the push from most here, to sign Kirk long term. Which of these two statements is incorrect.

1. With Cousins and the year to year tags, there was instability at QB.

2. Without him as is current with AS, there's stability at the quarterback position.

If you've answered both, then you know what this team got in trading for Alex Smith. How much is that worth to you? :suds:
i could have gotten that by A signing KC or b) signing a FA , not by making a dumb trade

Ok, instead of critizing your post which is full of opinion only from a fan, let's see how this plays out first before making predictions as you have in your last paragraph because that is likely not to happen. (Another fan opinion)
As I have previously stated, the Skins got the short end of the trade, one that had to happen in order to secure Smith. I'm sure a QB will be drafted at some point late this year. Kirk was good while he was here now he is gone.

Wrong. Because Cousins camp decided signing a LTD was not an option, it made the plan to make a move imperative by the FO. Period! They chose AS and the trade as their option, not yours, mine or anyone else's. Other viable options seemed to take a back seat to the AS deal. Why? I do not know...I'm not here to roast you, the FO or anyone, I'm just glad the situation is resolved so all parties can move on. Wish KC well and on to rooting for my team, and everyone who currently plays for the REDSKINS!

You know, I agree with this in principle... except for the part where you try and paint this as the only option the Front office had and thus it was a good deal because of that. [Please show me where I said this was the "only" option. AS wasn't the only option. He was the option the FO chose right now, not me or you].

They basically walked away from the lease on a 2012 QB because they had driven it long enough that buying it was too expensive [Absolutely agree]

And instead they went out and BOUGTH a 2005 model. [Absolutely disagree]

Smith MIGHT be slightly better ( that wont be proven until we see what he does with this team) [Agree]

IN the end I expected us to have another QB, I just hoped they would not dump more resources at trying to justify past mistakes. [Do you really know if the decision to acquire AS was too justify past mistakes or to put a solid QB plan in place now that gives the team stability at the position for the foreseeable future? Depends on how you want to spin it I guess]

Also... most people are roasting us for this trade both in league offices and the media. We look like idiots.
The Skins got the lesser end of the deal, agreed. This FO has looked like idiots for years, what's new? Who cares at this point from a fan perspective, we should be used to it. Atleast a QB plan is in place and all can move forward. We now have a better qualified QB plan in place than 20 other franchises in this league currently.

Nah.. he is right.. Smith has a better win percentage while playing on a team with a defense and running game.

Smith has also fumbles less.

Going to be interesting to see how Smith does in DC. He is a better QB, so anything less than 11 Wins and a Playoffs win is a failure in my book.
Lol, of course...spin it Shark!

Wait...do we have to go over fact and opinion again.

Above was my original statement which you said was full of opinion. The two bolded sentences are opinions.

The italicized portion is a prediction, not an opinion, as you pointed out.

The rest is completely factual.

Yes dad, we lost the value in the trade. The kicker, we had no choice, KC was not signing, period. I believe the trade value (again, we lost) we can agree upon.

As far as the standard goes, we are a sub .500 team, that is the standard right now that this team has set. Where that standard goes moving forward, we all shall see.

Even with the most powerful homer glasses prescription, one should be able to see that the entire QB position handling has been tainted by the 2012 draft and trying to justify that mistake.

They doubted Kirk the past two years and basically bet against him mainly because Bruce didn't want to accept that he had made a mistake.

When it was speculated that Both Cousins and Smith would possibly be free agents, most agreed Smith was the second best FA QB that might become available in 2018.

Sorry but Bruce did over extend for the second best option, and he only HAD to do this because of his handling of Cousins.

So yea, this move was as much about saving face as it was trying to find a competent QB.

Not a spin, I stated two facts and an opinion.

If your opinion is correct, this SHOULD be a better team. SO based on that, if this team does not do BETTER than what it did with Cousins in his best year... it was either a wash or a failure.

Just saying, Skins didn't win 11 games at any point with the other QB so...My opinion is this, we have a QB plan in place, now lets continue to build around him, just like we were doing with the other guy and move on. That is my opinion. Notice, I have not thrown out any predictions yet simply because its too early and all pieces are not in place.
