The truly sad part is that you ACTUALLY believe that Smith is "not as good" as Kirk. In truth it's basically a wash with a extremely slight edge going to Smith because of his abilities outside of the pocket.
34 vs 30 ? smith's rep is that of check down charlie but the real stupid thing is we gave up a 3rd rounder and a great young CB to get a "wash " ?

as of now we stand to lose both our starting CBs ( both young ) and our pro bowl level ILB for a guy like smith who cant carry a team , (JUST LIKE KC )

now damn if he were a FA then at least i could live with that but we got worse on defense to tread water ?

I will always go with my evaluations before yours AJ. :pound:

You probably missed the posts where I said they made the best possible decision considering they weren't going to sign Cousin's .... some folks like drama way too much.

They literally could not go into free agency without settling the QB question. That's done now and we move on knowing that this was the cost of getting the guy that they believe is best suited to replace Kirk. Not my choice obviously, but I think that almost everyone agrees that they came pretty close to getting a Cousins clone despite the age differences. I personally believe that they could have done better, but right now it is what it is.

What would have been better and why? I mostly agree with you, just wondering what you think would have been better.

Now that we don't have AJ, we'll never know how wrong you were!:D

BTW: you're not the only one saying that they did the best that they could considering!

I believe that if they wanted to really sell this a younger player might have gone down easier with the posters here. At least some could justify it with the upside argument. Personally, I would have not panicked then waited to see who was available via free agency. You know who I've been talking about, but there were others that have been mentioned on this board. The one thing that I would not have done is weaken an already weak defense.

Actually I would be LESS pissed if they had given up a 2nd for McCarron.

Smith just checks off to many of the Snyder boxes for me.

1. Former First round pick
2. Former #1 pick
3. Just coming off a Pro Bowl Season
4. Had success in some one elses house.
5. Likely could have cost us less if we just had a bit of patience.
6. Tabbed to replace a guy that a good portion of the fan base thought we should keep

IM getting flash backs of Jeff George on this one

OK, it was stupid, but that's not the issue, in fact for as long as some here have followed this team stupid is the status quo. To me anyone who's hurt, bothered, annoyed, upset or in any way effected by this move, did it to themselves.

The one thing I don't understand is if you were going to pay Smith $23.5 million why not pay a few more and re-sign Cousin's. We know Dan isn't afraid to spend money so it sure makes it look like it was personal. Instead they made no offer.

Why not just pay KC last season?

There are two sides in that negotiation and from my perspective, neither wanted the other at the price one was willing to offer and the other was willing to accept. I don't think that it was personal at all, just business. BTW: contrary to everyone's opinion here the evaluation of Kirk was not what we thought it to be at least in the way that they slotted what his pay should be. From the outside in it was an absolutely stupid way to do things, inside of that business, not so much. As mentioned, just business Washington style, to me, meh!

Yep, or the season before that! In reading the many posts through the years up until today, I get the impression that some here are just now discovering/realizing that their favorite team wears Burgundy and gold.

Sorry Sty.. yo and I are both old enough to have done a fair amount of business.

Just business, even if you don't think you got a shot, you make an offer.

Personal.... you don't make an offer, and do dumb shit just so you can justify NOT making an offer.

Really?? Let me ask the obvious question then.

You are the businessman trying to hire me the temp who works in your office to a lucrative contract. For two years you've offered whatever it is that you want but to no avail. In fact, I know what the market will pay for me and you're not in the same state. My counter offers aren't close to what you're willing to pay, In fact my counter is as far away from yours. My third year and my work two years running is pretty good, but you know in your heart and from a business perspective, both what the market will pay me and what your bottom line offer is to me. You also realize that, you cannot continue paying me as your temp and are now faced with having to fill that position with someone who fits into your budget or maybe you've determined that ole' Sty is good, but he's not that good that you are going to pay what you know he'll get elsewhere. Knowing that, your offer is going to be met with another rejection, what do you do?

SN: I know bad businessman right?.....Well....my response to that is, EXACTLY!!

First off, if IM lowballing you that much repeatedly... odds are I don't really want you to work for me. But having said that, I would at least have the balls to say.. I simply don't want to hire you unless you are willing to work for less than you could get else where.

But again this was nothing but personal as far as Dan and Bruce AND Kirk were concerned.
